Platdude vs NeonPlat

-=-=-

For many years, I tried to create "arcade" style Platdude games, but given how much I loved the classic grid-based puzzle nature of the JNKPlat games, I was never quite happy to slap him into a generic boring humdrum platforming world.
It just didn't fit.

About 5 years ago, I made Abstract Munky, featuring a curiously warped world, where a Space Munky had been distorted into a really obscure shape. (You might recognise that from SpikeDislike iOS!)

That seemed to work nicely, so I also decided to try out a similarly "abstract" Platdude in the same sort of style.

!!!!!?!?!?!?!! WTF !!!!!?!?!?!?!!

A game idea never emerged, and the oddball Platdude sat, totally unused, for a long long time...

Then one day, Authentic Kaizen (PixelProspector.com suggested a game idea, mixing Bubble Bobble, moving platforms and the wonderful world of Neon.
I struggled for a few days to create a new character for this oddball mix of a game, but was never quite happy with the somewhat pathetic results.. Suddenly I remembered about my curious Abstract Platdude.

..
Bingo!
One swift (very much needed!) redraw later, the game fell into place, and NeonPlat was born (within, literally, about a day!!)

Today, day two of NeonPlat Adventures development, I find myself with a growing pile of tasks.
I need to draw a whole bunch of new neon sprites.
Those'll take a while.
I'm attempting to stick to the "used to be chunky pixels, now has neon around it" style of sprites that you know from
NeonPlat 1+2. It's quirky, it's tricky to keep it "lively", but it's coming along.
I've also kinda overdone things, with the tilemap. I might need to trim it a bit, if I want any chance of drawing sprites on top!

I'm still aiming for a November release date.

fingers crossed!!
There's an awfully large amount of work to be done if I'm aiming for a great big oversized horizontally scrolling platform game.
...

*yikes*
