Sorry, been FAR too focused on coding to have thought about the monthly wallpaper's, so we'll start the year with a nice simple Platdude wallpaper.

Forewarning : I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to finish off this week's game in time!

For one thing, it feels like it should be a little more complex than it currently is. Loads of extra stuff could be added, but I probably don't have the time to add it all in.

Secondly, however, is the current issue I'm having, health-wise. All of 2012's nastyness has left me slightly off-balance, and kinda queazy a bit. For the most part, I'm managing quite well, but this week's game..

.. there's something about staring into a constantly moving, swooping, swirling tunnel that isn't entirely agreeing with my current condition!!!

If we get to Tuesday and it's still not entirely "gamey", I might just plop what I've got online, and call it a failed attempt.
Might not be a good idea to go for swirly sickness inducing wizzy effects, in future!!

Or, as the titlescreen would have you call it, "Greenie's Little Adventure"
Feel free to use either of the two titles!

Welcome back!
AGameAWeek starts anew, this week, with a nice little remake of a game I made a good 7 or 8 years ago.
My original "The Quest" game took a board-game-style approach, but never really got very far due to the limits and oddities of trying to play a board game on a computer. It felt strange to have to roll dice all the time, and the battles were never that great.
I'm not entirely sure why I decided to retackle the idea, this week, but something stirred me, and so I opted to give it a go.

As week one rapidly approaches, and I'm posting less and less, it's probably apparent that I'm knee deep in the middle of a mega-coding frenzy.
Or, if that's not apparent, let it be known.. I'm knee deep in the middle of a mega-coding frenzy!!

Over the past week or so, I've overhauled quite a few features of my framework, including getting things prepared for OUYA, with controller additions and things like that. I've learned quite a few little bits and pieces about controllers over the last few months, and all of that's been collected together, and is now part of the permanent framework.
Over the next week or two, I'll be bundling it all together, stress testing it, and releasing a new version of my Monkey Framework for folk to make use of, if they feel the need.

But what of this week's game?
Well, if you've been following my Twitter account, you've probably already seen a few screenshots from it.

I've decided to finally put together a decent Mini-RPG, and for a change, things seem to actually be slotting into place!
I can't guarantee a proper RPG experience, because.. really.. it's only a week's worth of work going into this!! But I'm trying my best to come up with a nice way to make progress obvious to the player. .. Whilst also relying on our good friend "Mr Random Level Generation!" to keep me from having to design a million levels.

The game's also relying on a whole host of old sprites, to save me the trouble of drawing oodles of new things. Lifted directly out of a previous Mini-RPG attempt, we've got Greenie and Dave inside a dungeon with a whole host of enemies from The Quest.
In fact, the two games share a very similar style, except this time we're going to be doing things in a proper Action-Orientated manner, instead of the odd board-game style that The Quest took.

Anyway, that's coming up, and should be appearing on Tuesday... But there's still an awful lot of work to do before the game's complete.
.. Loads, in fact!!

Stay tuned : AGameAWeek-2014 kicks off, on Tuesday 7th!

NeonPlat Extreme appears to be following the same path as BlastTrax, and gaining a nice bit of attention.
Knowing my luck, this will probably result in an equally similar amount of sales. ie, bog all!!
Folk seem to love my games, but getting them to try them is a bitch!!!

You can Download NeonPlat Extreme here for all kinds of devices!

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013

No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention!
Sucks!!

So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list.
And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant.
That'll show 'em!!

AGameAWeek Gold looks back at some of the best, and worst, games that have been previously released on this day in history.

Today's game from the archive is a lovely little arena battler, with lots of weapons and things to shoot!

Over on the Monkey forum, a discussion about level data set me off thinking about making this post.

Whenever I put levels into my games, I tried to keep them as small as I possibly can. I've been doing it this way for years, and always figured it's nice to compress my data into something that's easily shareable.
.. True, I rarely ever get around to actually making these things easily shareable, but for the most part I try to keep things as minimal as possible.

NeonPlat Extreme sees most of the elements of the NeonPlat series of games, all cobbled together into one great big lump sum.
There's lots of fun little things to play around with, and for the most part it's the same single-screen platforming action you've come to expect.

NeonPlat Extreme is now available on iOS, Android, OUYA and Windows!

iOS : AppStore
Android : Google Play
OUYA
Windows/HTML5

Today, I realised I could do with some proper little snowflakes, for use as particles, and started trawling the net.

.. Then I went.. "hmmm... Might as well make a generator.."

And then I did..

Make Flakes

(for Windows, with BlitzMax source included.)
Select a size, then it'll fill a 512x512 spritesheet with randomly generated snowflakes, and save it as Flakes.png

Job done!

I formally give you, and everyone else, permission to make videos of you playing my games, and then shoving those videos onto YouTube or Vimeo or whatever else you'd like to put them on.

I'd prefer to hear some commentary over my games, so I can watch them and enjoy the silliness of seeing people rant and shout, as they lose life after life in my ludicrously difficult games.

I would prefer if you didn't add any additional music to my games, but then YouTube will probably kick your arse for doing that, anyway.

You may monetise your videos however you'd like. I'm not entirely sure how complex the options on YouTube are, but if you can disable "unskippable" adverts, do that, 'cos those are frustrating!!

The Jayenkai Archive currently contains over 300 freeware games, all created by me. If you only do one Let's Play a week, you'll have years worth of content for your channel. .. Heck, even if you do one a day, you'll probably get a years worth out of it, as long as you take a rest at the weekend!!!

... And let me know, when you do!

Sheep Goes Right, or at least a minor version of it, is now available on OUYA.

It isn't finished. There's a lot more of it that I've made, and a lot more I've yet to add, but something annoying has happened in the past few days.

The aim for December is to make a nice little test version of JNKPlat, and see what devices it does, or doesn't work well on.
I'm going to try my best to make Touchscreen controls work with the game, but after years of trying various methods, that's probably not going to work out.
Either way, no matter what happens, by the end of the month there'll be a brand new mini-adventure for Platdude, in keeping with his Puzzle/Platform stylings.
The Windows and OUYA editions should be fine, but Android iOS controls will be quirky at best.
grrr...

Anyway..
