OpenAI's Playground is a wonderful thing.

-=-=-

Yesterday I tried asking the OpenAI Playground to create a pretty pattern in ZX Spectrum BASIC, and to my surprise, it actually understood what I meant.
It's not the prettiest of patterns, sure, but the fact that it knew how to write a BASIC program, understood what a ZX Spectrum was, knew how to do line numbers..
That kinda surprised me, if I'm completely honest.

The resulting pattern is a bit rubbish, but..
Hey, it works.
Who can argue with results?!

In a couple of years, I bet you could ask it to write AGameAWeek, and then I'd be out of a job.
..
bugger..
.....

So, I asked it "Describe the rules for a board game featuring a dragon, where the players use a single dice to defeat the dragon."

And this is what it came up with

The game board is divided into two sections, the "dragon's lair" and the
"player's board". The dragon's lair is made up of six squares, and the player's board is made up of four squares. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach the dragon's lair with their piece.

Players take turns rolling the dice. If they roll a 1, 2, or 3, they can move their piece one space forward. If they roll a 4, 5, or 6, they can move their piece two spaces forward. If a player rolls a 6, they can also choose to "defeat" the dragon by moving their piece into the dragon's lair. If the player does not defeat the dragon on their turn, the dragon moves one space forward. If the dragon catches up to the player, the player loses the game.

That kinda sounds like a game.. I think.. Maybe...
I'm not sure.
I've had the vague idea running through my head all night, and maybe today I can make a start on adding it to the Shoebox.

You can Play with OpenAI's Playground here, but you do have to sign up, first.

Meanwhile..

Did you know that they're making a new Quantum Leap?
I'd heard rumours a while back, but put it down to "There's always rumours of a new Quantum Leap"

But, no, it's actually happening.

On the left, Addison, (played by Caitlin Bassett), the hologram holding a handlink!
On the right, Ben Song, (played by Raymond Lee), the leaper.
On the floor.. Unknown, but probably the thing that once went wrong.

The series is apparently starting on Sept 19th on NBC, though goodness knows what hoops us Brits will have to jump through in order to see it.

Incidentally, I can't seem to find a last name for Addison, so I bet she'll probably turn out to be one of Al's daughters or something. Not sure what happened to Sam's daughter, Sammy Jo.. ...
