New games every week!
Ups and Downs Blog
8th May 2014
One of the hardest things in the world of AGameAWeek is when you take time off.
The past week has been chaotic at home, and things got a bit down in the realm of the real-world. As such, I opted to take the week off from AGameAWeek, mostly because my mind wasn't in the right place to be designing fun little games.
The week off left me a little bored, and as is usually the case when in that mindset, I started to look back through the past few weeks and dig through the stats.

One of the most depressing stats was that of Spiky Tower and Disc Blaster on iOS.
Both games have sold around about 30 copies each. That's after a good month or so on the AppStore.
..
30!?
That's pitiful!!

I chose to set Spiky Tower free for a day, and then watched the TouchArcade forum..
Advice came from the forum, with the general gist of "I don't like Indie games", "You need to make games that are different" and "Why don't you just give up"

Fantastic advice, and exactly the sort of thing you need to read when you're already in a bit of a funk.

To those who don't enjoy Indie games, don't play them. Simple as. Nobody's forcing you. You can carry on playing your generic WWII FPS all you want.

To those who think I need to make my games "stand out", and "be different".. I do. In fact, I pride myself on trying my best to make my games a little bit different to the norm. Just because my screenshots look like every other game you've played, doesn't mean the game plays like that.

And to those who think I should pretty much just give up..
Not a fucking chance..

AGameAWeek - Ploughing through the negativity, bringing all the funstuffs

Advice to all, if you like what you're doing, to hell with the comments, and keep on doing what you love doing. If only one person on the entire internet enjoys the end result, then you've made one person happy, and that's a great thing to do.
