Developments

So, after yesterday's realisation that the StarFlips game wasn't going anywhere, I opted to head back to "Larger Project" and see if I could get any more done on it.
Whether I continue with Larger Project, or instead switch to a smaller intermediate project, will be dependent on how much happens between now and.. Um.. Unspecified date!

It took a little work, and probably isn't "quite" what I want, but the basics are in there.
Scrollable menu, lots of buttons, not much else. Simple and basic.
Maybe TOO basic?!
*shrugs*

Either way, Larger Project now has a basic menu system, and only (*only!?) requires a good 100-or-so levels to go with it.
Hurray... :

Daily Doodle : Formula 2600

Platdude's in the lead, but oddly there are cars ahead. It makes no sense, but that's OK, because Platdude knows it's just a game.
Full speed ahead!

Mailbag

Today's mail comes from OUYAForum frequenter timmytot666

How often do you forget your ideas before you can get them down on paper?

timmytot666

Honestly? It's been a LONG time since I jotted anything down on paper.
I keep meaning to grab my old notepads, scanning in a few pages, and posting them here. Perhaps once I run out of things to write about in the daily blog!

In general, I simply let ideas fester away in my head. At a rate of AGameAWeek, there's not much time between idea and complete game! Any ideas I tend to have are usually vaguely reproducible in a short enough amount of time, that I can get the basic idea into a playable experiment within a couple of hours. If the idea isn't, however, I'll jot a short reminder onto a Windows "Sticky Notes" note, on my desktop. The note simply acts as a memory jogger, so faux-titles are usually enough to do the trick.

For those interested, here's what's currently on one of the lists.
CurrentList
Make of that what you will!

If you'd like to stuff my mailbag, you can do so right here, at https://bit.ly/AGAW_Mail. Send comments, questions, game ideas, thoughts and more, and they'll probably turn up here, eventually.

OUYA?

Panic, in the world of OUYA, as it seems the large (was it $40mil?) deal with a Chinese company apparently fell through, leading to Team OUYA frantically trying to find a new buyer.
Nobody's quite certain what'll happen next, and everything's currently up in the air.
What does this mean for AGameAWeek?
Not much, if I'm honest. My games are still as playable as they were the day they launched.
If OUYA does indeed go under, I'll dig through my stuff and re-upload the .apk files to my Archive, so folk can continue to enjoy them in the future.
It'll be a shame to see "The Little Console that Could" disappear, but in all honesty, they weren't exactly raking it in from sales of my games, so I didn't really help, even with all those games I had on their system.. Ooops!

Maybe I should've added giant ?50 price-tags onto all my games, and donated 50% of the profits back to OUYA.. That way, they could've made at least ?0 from all my sales.

*shrugs*

It's a tricky thing, this game-selling malarkey.

OUYA's a lovely little console, and it's a wonderful place to play a whole host of Indie titles, including a whole series of mine. And, for all intents and purposes, it'll continue to play host to my games, whether that be officially, or via uploaded .apks.
It's a shame to see it fail in such a bad way, and I wish Team OUYA every bit of luck trying to resurrect themselves.
Meanwhile, if you CAN get hold of one.. DO..
I know you're here as an AGameAWeek fan, and OUYA's a great way to enjoy them.
Can't go wrong with that!
