Last week, I set out to make an arcade-based "Tower Defence" type of game.
Initially the plan was going smoothly. You could drag the little turrets around, plant extra turrets, and then start an "Attack".
At that point, you shot the enemies and gathered up the coins.

However, in a large scrollable environment, and with enemies coming from every direction, it was hard to keep track of things.
So then I stripped out the scrolling, at which point the dragging of turrets seemed unnecessary, so that got stripped out, too.
As I carried on down this path, I also ended up stripping out enemy mulit-spawns and other such things, as they didn't work when the game WASN'T scrolling!! Odd, but there you go.
I managed to keep the concept of the coins in play, but once everything got squished into a single-screen area, that too seemed somewhat redundant.

What I'm posting is an unfinished prototype, at a fairly late stage in development.
I've decided that, as it is, it's completely unworkable.
Had I spent this week working on it, instead of feeling crappy with Flu, I'm sure I could've done something with it, but over the past few days I've stayed away, and now looking back at the game I've realised that I've stripped so much away from the initial concept, what's left is pretty much just bloody well a Missile Command clone!!!



So, I'm scrapping the game, and will instead work on something more interesting.

I still think there's a concept in here, somewhere, but right now my head's switched itself off!!
The game's concept will remain in mind in future, and hopefully will re-appear as a better idea.
I think I need to work on the overall feel, before going any further.

.. And maybe having paths might help!!
