An unexpected treat...

-=-=-

As I browsed the Amazon "Today's Deals" like I usually do, I stumbled upon this.
Project
ELEPHAS Multimedia Led Pico Projector

RRP ?199, Standard price ~?59 (price seems to fluctuate wildly!), Offer price ?45
Inputs include HDMI, VGA and regular red/white/yellow Audio/Video input, as well as USB and SD Card for videos and photos!

I sat and pondered for a good solid minute or so, before deciding upon one of the silliest purchases of my life.

As a "substandard" Pico projector, I'm aware that there are caveats. The 640x480 image isn't exactly mind-blowing, "cheap is cheap" as they say, and having an el'cheapo additional ?25 projector screen dangling from my bookcase isn't the most ideal scenario, but as a cheap sub-?100 setup, it's nothing to complain about.

The thing arrived yesterday, but Easter Friday is meant for family, so I held off doing anything with it until later on in the evening.
Once up and running, it looks great.

Projector Test : Testcard

It's good enough for watching videos and if you feel the need, you can project your photos onto it as well, however, it's probably not the best device for playing games on.
There's a subtle blur to things. It's not terrible, and if you're playing the latest 3D megathon game it's probably pretty much ideal. But for my particular type of game, with pixels and clarity being key, the subtle screen blur is enough to put you off.

Mine's now hooked up to my older 2012 Apple TV, so I can pretty much get most videos and things working off it.
Excellent!!

Projector Test : Dangermouse!

Pros

It's a feckin' Projector!!!
Big 100 foot screen, from just across the bedroom.
Nice and clear, albeit a little bit blue. I'll have to poke and prod the menus to see if I can tweak that.

Cons

Very pixelly. You can see all the pixels, and they're larger than I was expecting. A better HD projector would probably eliminate this issue.
A bit blurry. It's only about a frame and a half's worth of blur, but it's enough to make SpikeDislike unplayable!
It's odd having the audio come out of the projector, which is obviously at the opposite side of the room to the picture. It DOES have a 3.5mm audio output jack, though, so I'll probably have to see about setting up some speakers.

Projector Test : SPIKEDISLIKE!!

Overall

Great for video, not so much for gaming.
Mileage may vary!

Daily Doodle : Which Way?

The council recently replaced the roadsigns, but Platdude hasn't got a clue what the new one's supposed to be telling him!

Mailbag : Empty

If you'd like to stuff my mailbag, (Please do!!) you can do so right here, at https://bit.ly/AGAW_Mail. Send comments, questions, game ideas, thoughts and more, and they'll probably turn up here, eventually.
