Yesterday was all about SoCoder.net

For the past few months, the site's been "stuttering" every so often, so I opted to spend yesterday trying to find out what was going on.
I added a reusable timer into the site, with the ability to move the timer around through various parts of the script, in order to work out exactly which bits are the fastest/slowest.
With a few random clues, I set about optimising those areas as best as I could.
After practically a whole day's work, I managed to get the script's page-execution down from a 0.15 second average, to a 0.08 second average.
And that's without yet digging into the complicated forum-display stuff.

So, I reckon I've done pretty well.
By comparison, the (this) Wordpress site, on the same server, is averaging about 0.12 second per page, so I've managed to tweak quite a lot out of the decade old Socoder script!

Unfortunately, I don't appear to have fixed the frequent "stutter" issue.
Having looked into all my figures, though, I can see it's roughly an hourly problem, happening at about 14 minutes past the hour.
Whether that's a long forgotten script break, or a cron job, or a backup, or what.. I'm not sure.
Today I'll be trawling through as much of the site as I can, in the hope of figuring it out.

Meanwhile...

I also struggled with Puzzobomb's menu a bit more.
Stupid thing wasn't quite working right, whenever you tried to switch to alternative pages of levels.

I *think* I've managed to sort the problem, now, though.
Should only be a matter of months before you get to play it
