Just finished the game, so I'm here to say *Thank you* for some real good entertainment.
A couple of things I noticed:
Loved the game concept, and the visual design is spot on for that kind of game. Unfortunately, sound doesn't work on Ubuntu 11.10.
It's a shame that the progress isn't properly recorded: The game should automatically offer me to play at the 'highest' levelset and the highest starting point I reached in my last session. Having to write down level names feels so 1980s
Reaching a new starting point is sometimes not communicated to the player, and starting points don't seem to appear every X levels but at varying intervals? I spent too much time thinking about that, so obviously something's wrong here
I'd also like to be able to use more keys than "Y" to select a menu item in the main and exit menus. Space and Enter are natural candidates.
But don't get me wrong: it provided me with hours of good entertainment, I love it.

Over at HappyPenguin.org they're having a little Platdude nostalgia, as they finally added JNKPlat 2010 into their great big archive of Linux games.
"Submitted by Jayenkai on 2010-05-06" says the little bit on the bottom of the page, but I don't think it was actually added until recently. There's been a nice little surge of visitors from the site, and it's helped to bulk up those pitiful stats of late.

I really should get AGameAWeek kicked off again..
Anyhoo, let's go through the comment, shall we?

You're welcome! That's what I do

Ubuntu is a tricky beast.
On MY Ubuntu 11.10 (recently installed, about a week ago, to compile NeonPlat Adventures) it works fantastically.
On others it doesn't.
I don't know why!

Best I can suggest is that you hit the Tab key to bring up the menu, then have a fiddle with the Audio Driver select thing. I'm not really sure what options you'll get, but something might work. *shrugs*

The whole game's 1980's!!
I've always struggled to lay out the levels well in JNKPlat games.
The idea is meant to be that you can build things in the editor, then share your levels with your mates, and build the whole thing up.
I'm never been too sure how that would work in the level select, though, because after a while, the files all tend to jumble up, and you get a crazy mass of files to flick through.
One day I'll figure it out!
Maybe it'd be better to have a multi-select method, so you have Jay's Levels, Submitted Levels, My Levels, and Friends Levels, or something?
Dunno.
These'll be the things I need to think about, as I prepare to build the 2012 edition.

Reaching a new starting point is sometimes not communicated to the player, and starting points don't seem to appear every X levels but at varying intervals? I spent too much time thinking about that, so obviously something's wrong here
Since the level packs can be any size (or did I limit it to 20? can't remember!!) the midpoints ended up being any level, too. It should be "about the middle" but. meh!
Again, something to think about for the next one. It's quirky when you're dealing with unknown level packs!

I'd also like to be able to use more keys than "Y" to select a menu item in the main and exit menus. Space and Enter are natural candidates.
I'll be honest, these are things that I don't consider!
I usually play with my fingers strapped tightly to the Cursors+Z/X/C buttons, so I don't notice the lack of other buttons, but.. yeah.. people have mentioned it!

Again, 2012 edition.. all should be happy

But don't get me wrong: it provided me with hours of good entertainment, I love it.
I love it, too!
For extra happy joy, you can now play NeonPlat Adventures, which is kinda like a bizarre distorted sidescrolling arcade platform thing, and probably still has a couple of those oddball bugs you've already mentioned
