Blog – Titles?

Developments

Nearly up to 400 games in the Jayenkai Archive (currently 393!), and boy, am I struggling for game names, lately!?!

Yesterday I quipped about this fact on Twitter, and was more or less bombarded by people telling me there are plenty of “Game Name Generators” online.
The problem with those, however, is that (for the most-part) they tend to be a series of completely random titles that have little or nothing to do with the game you’ve already finished making.
In general they’re better for coming up with entire game ideas, than titles for your game.

With my complain in hand, I knew there was only one thing to do..

As per bloody usual, I’ll make my own!

I started work on the website yesterday, and vaguely got it working.
At the moment, the thing’s not outputting very good possible titles, but the basics are in there, and hopefully I can wrangle it into coming up with something a little better.

You input a series of game-associated words on the leftmost set of boxes, which in turn finds “thesaurus-based” synonyms in the right hand set of boxes, then you click the “Mix it up” link, and up pop the random possible game titles..

The tool isn’t ready for public consumption, just yet, as I’d like to add some kind of “more like a word” rules to the thing, as well as trying to make it look/work a little nicer. But.. it’s a start!

SoCoder Progress

I got stuck fiddling with more CSS layout stuff, yesterday!
I moved the pile of buttons from the top-right, into a more logical toolbar of buttons, and have tweaked a couple of admin functions.
Things are starting to feel a bit more functional, but there’s still oodles to do.
I haven’t yet, for example, got the Showcases/blogs and other elements working, yet.

Yep, loads more work to do!!

Daily Doodle : Taking The Trash

Platdude’s lucky that his local council workers bother to take the extra bags of rubbish.
Most councils wouldn’t allow that sort of thing.

Misc..

Hard at work on so many things.
Juggling much more than two.
Trying to keep all the projects alive.
I wonder what else I could do?

If you’d like to stuff my mailbag, (Please do!!) you can do so right here, at http://bit.ly/AGAW_Mail. Send comments, questions, game ideas, thoughts and more, and they’ll usually show up on my daily blog, the very next day.

  • Rajasekaran Senthil Kumaran

From the archives, 25th Dec, 2017 will mark the 20th anniversary of “JNK Slalom” released on 25th Dec, 1997.

    • Nah, fairly sure it’s probably older than that..
The problem with my Amiga (A600, none-upgraded) is that it didn’t have a battery backed clock. As a result, pretty much all of my Amiga-generated-content has no date/time attached.

25th Dec 1997 (Xmas day) is more or less the latest that the game would’ve been created, as thereabout is when I upgraded to PC, and stopped doing anything vaguely decent on the Amiga. It wasn’t an instant transition, but .. it happened!

      Poor Amiga 🙁

25th Dec 1997 was used in the Archive because, unsure of the actual date, I figured I might as well give it a date that I know it at least existed!
