Game Fail - Sheriff Guy Blog

The game I intended to make, this week, was a bit like the classic 8-bit title Gunfright.
Wander around the landscape, seek out X character, shoot him, have a gunfight.

I started things off by creating a 3D character generator.

It actually worked out really nicely, and although the characters are obviously blocky and low-poly, they kinda worked nicely when shrunken down to sprite-form.

So, I figured that was a decent enough starting point, and began coding a game that made use of them.

This is where the game fell apart.
The game ended up playing like a rubbish version of Where's Wally, and you basically wandered the maze trying to find the "Wanted" character. After which you shoot them, earn your reward, and then rinse/repeat.

But there was no peril.
No risk.

Nothing to keep you from winning, other than the possibility of shooting the wrong character.

The other characters didn't fight back, and there's no logical way for you to die.

I've tried for the past day and a half to make it a bit more "gamey", but no matter what I try, it just felt dull and uninteresting.

A good set of sprites, and maybe something to revisit in future, but gamewise, this week's a bit of a dud.
