InDev Codename: "Card Fighters"

Oh, sod it..
I'm not getting any further with this, so I'm going to scrap it.
I will, however, be keeping a few assets for future reuse.

What was it?

A mini RPG thing.

-=-=-

I started the project by creating a batch of Weapon Cards, and writing battle descriptions for each.
eg
"Axe", Power 7, "[ChrA] swings an Axe at [ChrB].","Severe damage is dealt."
"Ice Shard", Power 5, "[ChrA] opens an ice box and reveals a Shard of Ice.","[ChrB] is punctured by ice."
and so on and so forth.
I drew little icons, and wrote little descriptions for 47 different weapons!

What Went Wrong?

The initial idea was a top-down rompy thing, where you'd battle your way to the level's end, using the cards to fight with.
Somewhere along the way, I figured that using Dice for movement might work out better, so I threw that in, and started making the GUI for cards and dice and whatnot.
After a while, I figured the cards should probably be limited to just a set of 5, but then that couldn't mean you could have "fights" with the monsters.. (you'd run out of cards!)
Instead, I switched it to a simple "you each get one card to battle with" mechanic, with the winner being whoever has the highest power on their card, rather than a complete HP system.
Then I simplified the movement mechanic, turning it into something more akin to Snakes and Ladders.

No Questing.. No HP.. No epic battles..
.. By this point, the great plan had been reduced to practically nothing, and much like most "board game" style games, I started to get bored with the simple "Roll the dice, move, pick a card, rinse, repeat" mechanic.

Within just a few days, the game had been reduced to a turn based bore-a-thon, and I'm really struggling to change it back.
So, I'm going to stop.

What Happens Next?

I've got an alternative game in mind, and hopefully I can manage to get that up and running in the next day or so.
I'll be keeping the weapon art, fight descriptions and card stuff for a future revisit, but I think next time I'll have to make things a little less Board-Game'y.
I really should've known better than to attempt such a thing! I don't get along with Board Games on computer. Cards, Dice and Counters are best played with in the real-world.
