You know that point where you go to access your backup from another computer, and suddenly remember that you didn't finish off doing your backup of a vitally important folder, so you end up doing that backup and it renders your Mac virtually unusable for the entire rest of the day..?
That! -=-=- Although the Server backup is performed daily, and includes everything from SoCoder, AGameAWeek, Browsercade, Shoebox, Foldapuz and whatever other bits and bats are included in there, the other BIG backup wasn't ever finished. The JNK Software folder has existed ever since I switched from Amiga to PC, and contains everything gamedev wise that I've coded (and a lot of unfinished stuff) ever since, up until a couple of years ago when I made the switch to Browser based development. Since then, all gamedev has been done inside the Server folder, where it all lives in a nice ready-to-upload place. The JNK Software folder is now pretty much archival. I guess you could call that the PC era, and the new stuff is Mac era. It's certainly been a heck of a long ride, with PC! When I switched over to Mac, everything got copied over to the device, I then archived the 2000 backup folder, and started a new 2001 backup folder. The server folder got backed up, but the JNK Software one only got vaguely started. I cancelled it halfway so I could actually USE the bloomin' Mac, but must've forgotten to get back to it, and so yesterday was spent finishing the big backup off. .. Hours and hours of sitting watching a progress bar jump up and down, and back and forth.. 10 minutes remaining... .. 9 hours remaining.. 12 days remaining.. 8 minutes remaining. In all, it took about 3 and a half hours to do the full backup. Now the Mac, the NAS and the Windows Setup (an old MacMini running Windows) are all equal, and all is good. All of that is also duplicated on >>this<< server. The server folder being as you see it, and the JNK folder being an unaccessible section on the drive. .. Although it'll probably take another few days for the newly archived JNK folder to fully transfer across. (The NAS handles this in the background.) On top of that, I really oughta set up a BackBlaze backup to make sure everything's tripley safe. I keep meaning to do that, but never seem to get around to it. Hmmm. Anyhoo, all is good, and thankfully, nothing bad's happened during the time that the JNK folder wasn't backed up. Back to coding!!! Reminder to perform a backup, if you haven't done so lately.
