Slowly but surely, the old laptop is becoming more useable.

-=-=-

With all the updates finally done, the disk-hammering is now down to a respectable 75%..
.. hmm..
The new battery's in place, and the system is now quick to start when you physically open it up, as long as you don't shut it down, and just instead use the OS's quick hibernation (or whatever it is that Windows calls that specific mode) by closing and opening the laptop.

Gud gud..

The old stickers have been removed, along with all the tacky residue.
Couldn't find the WD-40 again. I refuse to buy more, because I know it's around somewhere.. In fact, at this point, there's probably about 20-odd cans of the stuff lurking in an obscure cupboard in some odd corner of a room... But damned if I can find any of them!
Instead, I improvised, and grabbed the little alcohol wipes that are meant for my Diabetes Stabby Test Things..
A couple of those, and all the stickies were gone.
Mmmm, Alcohol!

Now I need only set up the actual Windows environment to make it Aunt-Friendly, which includes logging into her facebook account, and adding any quick shortcuts to things she might need in the Start Menu.

I'll also be going through every setting that I can find that can lock down as much of Windows as I can.
Even a quick browse to find a nice wallpaper for her ended up with a couple of those scam-heavy "Your computer has a virus, call xxx-xx-xxxxx-xx number for assistance" popups, and she's exactly the sort of person who would fall for it.

In many ways, she'd be better off with an iPad!!
But, dang, those things aren't cheap, especially when compared to an old laptop I had lying in a drawer..

Right, plenty to be getting on with, today.
Hop to it, Jay!
