Where's the Turtle Going?
Blog
14th May 2023
I started writing a turtle game in GotoJSE yesterday, but then wondered if that's the right place for it.
-=-=- I wondered about the controls, and figured it'd probably work better as a touchscreen game, and then pondered if it'd work well in Shoebox. Have the commands pop up, one by one, and you have to hold the button to move the turtle that amount. If the button says "Forward 50", you hold it for "about 50" and let go when you think the turtle's moved forward 50. That seemed more playable, but it's not obvious that you have to hold for an undetermined amount of time. Not without some sort of tutorial. (Turtorial?) Then I wondered about Foldapuz-Play, and how you might start with a turtle onscreen and all of the commands in the sidebar, and you'd have to guesstimate where the treasure is located, and mark it with a cross. That seems like a decent idea, too, but how do I distinguish between "scribbling what I think is the path" to "marking what I think is the treasure"? Or do I drag the turtle, instead? Hmmm... And how does that work with only a timer as the score..? ? .. I'm kinda tempted to make both of these games, right now, but for either, I'm still not 100% sure it'll even work right. What to do?
