The Continuing Adventures Of....
6th January, 2011
I'm out of ideas.
I ran out about midway through Advent, and I think finishing that off has sapped every last ounce of ideaness out of my poor little head.
So, in order to continue to do AGameAWeek, I'm going to have to start doing things in a slightly different way.
I thought about this for a while, yesterday, and it does seem slightly plausible, if a little dumb!
If, like me, you're a kid of the 80s, you'll remember that!
It was... um... ...
A few people have attempted this before. Of note is PeeJay, who created Blitz50.
"Since I had no intention of playing through 50 piles of turd to do a true remake, this is my version of 50 dire games"
PeeJay's route, as is most others who attempt this, was to make 50 terrible terrible games, because.. honestly.. that's what Cassette 50 was.
But I'm going to attempt things a little differently.
I really AM going to play through 50 piles of turd, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll be doing a true remake.
I mean, that game's pretty damn rubbish. That's supposed to be Star Trek, but.. Dear GOD, that doesn't look like Star Trek!
And, this thing...
What on earth is going on there!?
It took about a minute to draw the screen of bricks, then pretty much killed me instantly!
(.. although.. that does look vaguely familiar..!?)
The games aren't good at all, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the basic ideas of the games aren't good.
They just need a little care and attention.
So, that's what I'm going to do.
I'll take an idea, rethink it from scratch, and we'll see where it takes us.
If I run out of ideas for AGameAWeek, I'll pick up this as a little sub-project, and work on it game-by-game.
I'll then release each one as AGameAWeek, but try to keep them neatly compilable afterwards as a total "50" collection.
Will I actually make it to 50? I'm not sure!
If I do, it probably won't be within the year!
And I'd also like to occasionally work on other projects through the year, too. The "Better" games of AGameAWeek!
So, this'll be occasional, and it'll be really odd to do, but hopefully it'll all fit in, somewhere.
If you've a favourite Cassette 50 game, let me know!
