Moving Jay : Day Sixty : Half a Tool
Blog
18th August 2023
For the past week or so I've been considering the possibility of writing a 3D modeller of sorts, but targeted specifically at my art style. .. so big chunky pixels, then..
-=-=- Yesterday, the fermenting idea solidified, and I made a start on a new tool. Day One : Import pixelart images, turn them into blocks, render them on the screen. I didn't think I'd manage that much, in a single day, but .. hey, I did! And it's REALLY easy to use, too. Right now all it'll do is plonk the blocks down, but I'll be aiming to add scaling and extruding options for the layers at some point, too. The end-goal is to use this as an exporter, so that renders can be done using much more capable software. (and also exporting to STL for 3D Printers, whilst I'm at it..) So then I tried exporting the scene as a 3D model, and came up against a buttload of complications with how Three.js is built. Why can't things just be "Function Export()" instead of importing things as methods and classes and all that other gubbins? It's not as if this is a giant security risk. It's pixels and blocks! *sigh* Right, today I need to relearn what I learned yesterday, and see if I can get that working. As the saying goes.. Try, try, and try and try, again and again and again and again..
