Happy Birthday, JSE
Blog
18th February 2024
Over the past few days, JSE's come up over on SyntaxBomb.com, and I've had to waffle on about it to try and explain what it is, what it's purpose is, and why most people probably shouldn't be using it to write games like I do!!
Then I noticed something.. -=-=- OMG My God!!! The first post about it is from 17th February 2021.[/url] Three years!!?! Where did three years go to!?! How is it already three years old, and why is it still missing some fairly essential features?! Features like cloud-storage, and pre-made symbol collections, and a nice big library of music. Functionality like Data/Read, and some form of level building. There's no Wend/While.. Why is there still no Wend/While!?! And where are Functions!?! And all the error messages are gone. .. All but "Stack overflow" are now completely missing. Oh dear, it's all gone to pot. ... But it hasn't, of course. I've worked hard on the engine, and more importantly, the speed at which it'll run. I've added all manner of half-assed functionality, and although not everyone likes how the symbols work, I'm quite happy with their output, especially given they don't need external files to work. It's a quick and simple language that you can learn easily enough, and it's great for sharing concepts and ideas, and getting feedback with ways to code. And, at the end of the day, that's pretty much exactly what I wanted. A nice and simple, easy to use code-place, and somewhere I could write shorter minigames. The fact that I've been able to make substantially better games than just minigames is testament to just how functional it is, even with half the functionality missing!! Happy birthday, JSE!
