VidGen Lyric Progress
Blog
20th May 2024
I finally managed to get all* the timings working for the VidGen Lyrics! \o/yeay\o/!!
*Not all.. It's still broken. -=-=- View on YouTube Right now, the lyric display is at the "Well, it works..." stage. The timings seem to be functioning well enough. The above video is 100% generated in the engine, without the obligatory"Like and Subscribe" that I'll still have to tag on the end using Apple Motion*. But otherwise it was a case of 1. Import audio 2. Copy+paste lyrics 3. Tap away (with plenty of erasing!) until everything looks right. 4. Hit the capture button And all of the above happens in the engine, captures to the video, nothing more to do.. Job Done!! In the future if I need more than that, I can capture one or two versions, blend them with transitions inside Apple Motion*, add additional art assets (like if I want to add a foreground animation based on some JSE code, etc), and then plop the "Like and Subscribe" tune on the end. Honestly, I think this is going to be used a LOT in the future. I do hope other folk find it to be useful. If not.. Bugger them all!!! Anyhoo, there's tons of tweaks still to do before upload. I need to set up some fade outs. In the video above, everything is "Slide up", but I've since added left/right and down, and also a "Push to Generator", which, on the final frame, pops the lyric off the lyric layer, and onto the main draw layer, allowing it to interact with the feedback/effect that's happening onscreen. (This is great when there's a nice zoom effect on the generator!) I also need to add "In" effects. I'm going to add a different set of options here, so although there will be the obvious slides and maybe even a push, I'll also be adding options like "Karaoke Style", so the line of lyrics are visible, but each word is highlighted as the taps happen. Things like that. I think. If I don't trip myself up, that is!!! Gosh, this code's getting awfully complicated! * Other video editors are, of course, available.. And if I don't have to faff about with adding lyrics any longer, I might actually experiment with different editors, to see which can give me some nice transition effects and the like. Mmmm!
