JSE Toy - Curve
Blog
31st July 2024
The word for the final day for July is Curve
-=-=- You can Watch the Curve here. A curve with a grid and a happy bit of maths. The world of mathematics unfolds in a rather stunted kind of way. When I started this one, I envisaged adding a little number pad at the bottom and making it a semi-functional graphing calculator, but in the end, I wimped out and just made it a bit more random. But you could do that! Sure you could!! It'd be easy as Pi R Squared. Just a few buttons, an array to store it, and then process things step by step. You'd basically be making a little interpreted calculator, inside an interpreted BASIC, inside an interpreted Javascript, inside a browser on your laptop! Or your desktop. Or the phone in your pocket, Or your tablet..! Gosh, that would be exciting. The journey is over, And so is the code. From Ripples to Curves, Our story is told. The adventure has ended, I'm heading to bed, For hours of napping, And resting my head. You can Watch the Curve here. Obligatory WaffleThis is the last of our July JSE Toys, and as much effort as I thought I could've put into it, my head was all kinds of glad that I was at the end of the month. It's certainly been a chore getting here. The squiggly line on the screen pretty much captures the ups and downs I've had over the past 31 days. It's been an effort, but it's also been a lot of fun. And that lesson of old has resurfaced. If something doesn't work, just stop. Don't push it, don't try too hard to make it work. After all, this is "just" AGameAWeek, and there's no point bogging myself down with incredibly complicated concepts that ultimately don't work. What this month has taught me is that, sometimes a little toy game is more than enough for AGameAWeek. And occasionally those can grow to become somewhat larger games. I'm also finding myself wondering if there's more optimal ways to do some of the things that JSE does. The "Symbol Loading" for starters. Can I make that quicker? Hmmm. And over the course of the month, I've also been jotting down odd quirks and behaviours that have crept into JSE over the past year or so, that all need fixing. Michael Fernie's also been chipping in, with requests for an updated Help File/Command List, which I've been forgetting to update. There's an awful lot of things that I now have on my todo list, and maybe August should be for that. Fixing things up, optimising, that sort of thing. As for the Transpiler, I'm still stuck on that Goto puzzle, and as much as I'd love to figure it out, I think my head's silently shut the door on that idea. Maybe if I build up JSE a teensy bit more, I can find the solution somewhere. Who knows. For now, it's time to prepare for August. And December, too.... Because Advent is rapidly approaching! A.I.
