Took a day off, and spent a fairly lengthy amount of time playing with the Quest3 yesterday.
-=-=-
Me and Mum were a little bored, so I pulled out the Quest 3, and let Mum play a bit of Eleven Table Tennis VR. Their website still has the Oculus logo on it. LOL..
It's a nice enough game and is one of very few VR experiences that Mum's had. She hasn't really gotten on with VR. Though every time she HAS tried it, she seems to have enjoyed it, those are very very few and far between.
So, she had a few minutes playing VR Table Tennis (Practice mode, nothing complicated!) and kinda got a bit bored after a while.
So, I booted up Synth Riders and let her play that for the first time.
I've only had the game for almost 3 years..!! The game's been out and played for 3 Christmases with family around.
And yet.. Mum's never played it.
"I don't need to exercise" she kept claiming.
She played it, and loved it.
I'd previously picked out This Song, because it's a relatively easy level to play, and I thought Mum might enjoy it.
And she did! Very much so!
She tried playing the level about 10 or so times, and has managed to get through about 2 minutes. If she's wanting to try it again, I might try turning off death, and see if she still enjoys it. (I think SynthRiders can do that?!)
Though, she's also the type of game-player who dislikes "simpler" modes, and would probably kill me for turning on no-death!
But, yeah, she really enjoyed it quite a bit.
She'll no doubt be trying to play some of the other tracks, but I think she wants to beat this one, first.
Then it's onto the myriad of other awesome tracks and maybe even some of the Experience levels. .. That Lindsey Stirling one might freak her out a bit. So if I ever need to pinch back my Quest at any time, that'll be the one to do it

[Dave is sitting at his computer, wearing a flowery meditation headband. Green enters, looking skeptical.]
Green: Good grief, Dave, can you not just code a thing without having to dress up or bring in rabbits or kittens?
Dave: Greenie! Just in time. I'm putting the finishing touches on ZenGarden's Desktop Publisher app.
Green: [sighing] So it's ZenGarden, now?
Dave: This is revolutionary! Look at these soothing WordArt effects!
[Dave demonstrates a swirling, pastel-coloured WordArt]
Green: I think WordArt might be trademarked.
Dave: It's not trademark infringement, it's calming! Like a visual representation of a gentle breeze.
Green: I'm not sure that "calming" gives you free license for the name WordArt.
Dave: ZenWord! ... Art..
Green: Sure, ok.
Dave: WordZen!
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's apartment - A few minutes later
[Dave is enthusiastically showing Green more features]
Dave: And look, instead of the annoying paperclip assistant, we have a wise old turtle that dispenses calming advice!
Green: That's a very badly drawn turtle. Could you not use one of your rabbits from the other day? You had a lot of rabbits.
Dave: But this one's different! Watch!
[Dave clicks on the turtle]
Turtle Assistant: Remember, in the garden of productivity, patience is the key to growth.
Green: [facepalming] That doesn't even make sense.
Dave: It's not supposed to make sense, it's supposed to be zen!
Green: I think you've fundamentally misunderstood the concept of zen, Dave.
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's apartment - Evening
[Dave is putting on a VR headset, while Green watches skeptically]
Dave: Now, for a piece of resisters - the VR zen garden experience!
Green: Please tell me this doesn't involve any coke-powered devices.
Dave: Nope! Just pure, unadulterated tranquility. And spreadsheets.
[Dave enters the VR world]
Dave: [in awe] Wow, look at these floating pie charts! They're like cherry blossoms in the wind!
Green: [muttering] I think I want a cherry pie, now.
[Suddenly, meows can be heard in the VR world]
Dave: Oh no! I forgot to disable the cats!
Green: [exasperated] Dave, I thought we agreed on no more talking cats!
Dave: [taking off the headset] Don't worry, Greenie! I'll fix it. Maybe I'll replace them with silent, wise owls instead!
Green: [heading for the door] Call me when you've decided to make normal, functional software again. If ever.
Dave: [calling after him] Wait! What if we add a fractal processing meditation feature?
[End credits roll, featuring Dave attempting to meditate while surrounded by swirling WordArt and floating spreadsheets, as a wise turtle dispenses nonsensical advice.]
