Oops, the day got away from me again.
Blame telly, this time.
-=-=-
For the past few weeks, I've been watching the show Manifest. One of the many shows that slipped by me. I think this time it was a case of "Oh, like LOST.. I bet that has a rubbish ending, seventy eight years later, too." so I never bothered getting into it.
Plane goes missing, then five years later re-emerges with the passengers not having a clue what happened.
The show's finished, now, and with only 4 seasons to sit through, I figured what the heck.
I checked the episode list, and the final episode does appear to be an end, so I started watching and have got quite into it.
I'm now about 5 episodes from the end, and have enjoyed the show so far.
.. Though it is getting a bit more religeousy, and less sci-fi, the further it goes.
This final season has 20 episodes, whilst past seasons have only had about 16 episodes per season. You would think that would be "Better", in a "More = more!" way, but if I'm honest, this final season seems to have more filler episodes. Events are happening, sure, but the pace feels a little bit more stretched out.
With everything coming to a very obvious conclusion, events oughta be paced a little faster, but it seems to be coming to a bit of a halt.
Hopefully the final few episode will ramp things up a bit, and there'll be a satisfying conclusion to it all.
I'll let you know.
Oddly, Season 3 is missing from Netflix UK. If you're watching it over here, you can see Season 3 on Sky because.. *shrugs*
Alternatively, as I did, you can purchase Season 3 on Apple TV. I wasn't going to do that, but I'd gotten to the end of Season 2 a couple of weeks ago, and felt it'd warranted the purchase, since I was enjoying it so much.
Rights, though... Am I right!?
If you DO choose to watch the series, be forewarned that Season 3 kicks off just as Covid's hit, so for the first few episodes everyone's oddly spaced apart, and there's a lot of phonecalls where group shots used to be. It's very odd watching a show and having that slap bang in the middle!! It finds its footing after about half of season 3, but it's rather odd seeing it.
Once I'm done (likely at some point today) I'd love to read up on the background stuff.
I think it might've been cancelled after Season 3, as Season 4 has the Netflix logo in the intro.
I wonder what happened there?
It'll be interesting to find out.
A shame TV shows don't seem to have much in the way of Extras on the various streaming platforms.
The Apple TV "Box Set" lists a couple of trailers, and something called "On the Set".. But the On the Set thing is just a minute long..?!
What's that about?!
Hmmm..
...
Which is to say, I didn't do much coding yesterday, and watched about 8 episodes of the bloomin thing, and am writing this hurriedly so I can go watch the ending.
[verse]
Code a new game.
Write a neat tune.
Fix the uploader,
The one for Socoder.
[alt-verse]
There's things to be done,
You don't need to be told.
No more TV Watching.
Get back to your code.
[drop][chorus]
Why don't you
just switch off your television set
and go and do something
less boring instead
Why don't you
just switch off your television set
and go and do something
less boring instead
[break]
[verse]
Star Trek and Stargate
And then some Quantum Leap
Red Dwarf and Corner Gas
Maybe also Manifest
[alt-verse]
There's things you should be doing,
Not watching endless shows.
Focus on the work to do.
And tie it up in bows.
[break]
[drop][chorus]
Why don't you
just switch off your television set
and go and do something
less boring instead
Why don't you
just switch off your television set
and go and do something
less boring instead
[Dave and Green are slouched on the couch, flicking through Netflix]
Dave: Come on, Greenie, there must be something good on here.
Green: You'd think with all these shows, we'd find something better than another rerun of Star Trek again.
Dave: At least we're not relying on your old wooden box of a TV anymore.
Green: Hey, that TV had character!
Dave: If by character, you mean the testcard lady having been burned into the center of the screen, sure.
Green: Carole was a fine character to have on the TV all-year-round.
Dave: I'm sure she was.
Green: And the lovely music didn't hurt, either.
Dave: You mean how it went "beeeeeeeeee"?
Green: No, I mean when they played jazz and stuff in the background.
Dave: Aaah, that. I do miss Ceefax.
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's apartment - Later that evening
[Dave and Green are still scrolling through Netflix]
Dave: How about a comedy?
Green: Monty Python?
Dave: NO!
Green: Come on, Dave. It's classic British humor.
Dave: You've seen every episode at least 80 times.
Green: A classic!
Dave: How about something more modern.
Green: Like what? What's a good modern sitcom? Do they even make any, any more?
Dave: [pauses] .. Nope. Guess not. The sitcom is a dead artform.
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's apartment - Late night
[Dave and Green are still on the couch, looking tired and frustrated]
Dave: This is hopeless. We've been at this for hours.
Green: Maybe we should just watch Voyager again.
Dave: You know that Warp 10 episode ticks me off. How about we just pick something random?
Green: Alright, close your eyes and I'll scroll. Tell me when to stop.
Dave: Fine. Go.
[Green starts scrolling rapidly through the Netflix menu]
Dave: Stop!
[They open their eyes to see they've landed on a reality show]
Dave: So... Do we watch that, then?
Green: At least it's not Kilroy.
Dave: Twelve random strangers on a quest to discover who can make the perfect burger?
Green: I do love a decent burger.
Dave: How can it take twelve people to make a burger?
Green: I think they probably make one each.
Dave: Just one?
Green: I don't know, Dave. I know as much as you about this.
Dave: Do you think they have fries with the burger, or is it just a burger?
Green: Probably. I don't know.
Dave: Will there be coke?!
Green: Shall I just start it? We'll find out soon enough.
Dave: What if it's Pepsi?
[Green clicks the start button, and the two settle in for a night of burgers]
Dave: Hey, Greenie.
Green: Yeah, Dave?
Dave: We should order some burgers.
[Dave reaches for his phone.]
Dave: Want one?
Green: Sure, why not. It's not like we're going anywhere tonight.
