Yesterday, I got around to tallying up some kind of score for the Typing Tutor.
-=-=-
A little score doohickey!
3 stars if you're a perfect typer, 2 for a few errors, 1 for a number of errors, and 0 for "You typed bad!!"
The Words Per Minute will be tallied through the whole "lesson" and then your score will be WPM * Star Count
I think.
I mean, this uses very little of the data I'm recording as you're playing, but as far as a simplistic on-screen score goes, I think that works pretty well.
Maybe.
Today I need to work on a "And here's your score" thing that isn't just "plonk the text at the bottom of the screen", and is a little more animated.
I also have to show those scores on the menu, and then see what I can do about all the rest of the data I'm recording.
Mmmm. Clutter!!!!
[verse]
A simple little token,
At the end of every line.
Showing all the scoring,
Keeping track all of the time.
I smash the keys so quickly,
To bump the little bars,
And I hope I type correctly,
So that I can earn the stars.
[chorus]
tappity tap tap, (tap) typing the words. (tap)
tappity tap a-tap. (tap) All of the keys are tapping, (tap)
tappity tap tap, (tap) typing with speed. (tap)
tappity tap a-tap. (tap) Everything is excellent. (tap)
Tap tap tap
(Yeah)
Tap tap tapping away
[verse]
I have to add some movement.
A simple animation,
To show you what you're scoring,
After all the tapping action.
It's gotta be quite simple,
But also sort of cool.
Teaching all the typing,
Like you've gone to typing school.
[chorus]
tappity tap tap, (tap) typing the words. (tap)
tappity tap a-tap. (tap) All of the keys are tapping, (tap)
tappity tap tap, (tap) typing with speed. (tap)
tappity tap a-tap. (tap) Everything is excellent. (tap)
[Green enters to find Dave surrounded by roller skates]
Green: I thought you'd forgotten about this after dismantling the track.
Dave: Oh no, I've got a much better idea! The T-Rex and his new mate can skate around the cabbage patch together!
Green: His new mate being...?
Dave: A giraffe!
Green: A giraffe. On roller skates.
Dave: Well obviously. T-Rex needs someone tall enough to high-five.
Green: But T-Rex has tiny arms...
Dave: That's why he's not a dinosaur!
[Scene Two]
Ext. Dave's Bunker - Cabbage Patch
[Dave is attempting to attach roller skates to a giraffe statue]
Dave: Pass me the Cola, would you?
Green: What's that for?
Dave: Lubricating the wheels, obviously.
Green: The heavenly cat's watching us.
Dave: Yeah, it judges everyone. It sways towards the one who's doing the most amazing work for the community.
Green: No, it's swaying because you attached it with string.
Dave: That's just a technicality. Now, help me out with the Giraffe.
[The T-Rex statue and giraffe statue are somehow gliding around the cabbages]
Dave: They're best friends already!
Green: How are they even moving? Have you hooked the track up to the building's power or something?
Dave: Nope It's pure friendship!
Green: You've got the bee pushing them, haven't you?
Dave: The statue bee? Don't be ridiculous. It's busy making honey.
Green: Is it Cola powered?
Dave: Bingo!!! Now, tomorrow's "Nine, Friend Divine!" What do you think that could be?
Green: Another heavenly statue?
Dave: I was thinking more.. Porcupine! Maybe one with a dinner jacket.
[End credits roll featuring two very unlikely skating partners, watched by a judgemental celestial cat]
