Yesterday was spent coding, pretty much all day.
It's been a while since I sat and coded ALL DAY like that, but that's what happened yesterday.
If I'm going to get everything ready for the 1st of December, there's a whole lot of stuff that needs coding, and that's exactly what I did.
Coding all day, and trying to get everything working the way it should be, in preparation of the big Advent Calendar that's coming up in *checks date* Aaaargh!!!
The typing tutor is coming together nicely, but I feel like there's a TON left to do, so it's going to take an awful lot of work to get things done.
You know how I tend not to make long games? This is pretty much the reason for that.
I've had 2 months to do this. It's "just" a typing tutor. It should be easy!
Why is this so hard?!
Getting sidetracked, not focusing on the task at hand, and faffing about with 100 or so other little projects. It's not good!
I REALLY can't focus on things.
ADHD - Coder's edition - is absolutely a thing, and if you've ever wondered how it is I manage to do AGameAWeek, it's mostly because I just can't stick to a single idea.
There's 100,000 ideas in my head at any one time, and I tend to grasp at them at random, doing odd little bits and pieces of coding, instead of sticking to a single idea and getting bored 5 minutes later.
I need to focus. Stick to the plan.
There's lots of coding that has to be done.
Stay on the path and keep on coding away.
No Man's Sky got an update, today.
And Half Life 2 got an update, as well.
And look, there's a new Sonic game out.
I guess I could maybe play a bit of each one.
Oh my god, now another week's gone.
[break]
[chorus]
Focus, Jay, don't lose your way,
Even though the games call every day.
One quick break turns to hours of play,
And the Typing Tutor slips away!
[break]
[bridge]
I’ll check the forums, just one more post,
Oh, a trailer that I have to watch, of course!
Steam sale’s on, my library grows,
While the Typing Tutor slips away.
And Advent's getting closer every day.
And I need to focus on the code I suppose.
But this discord thread is amusing to read,
and read, and read, and read, and read
[chorus]
Focus, Jay, don't lose your way,
Even though the games call every day.
One quick break turns to hours of play,
And the Typing Tutor slips away!
[Dave and Green wait while Sarah gathers her papers]
Sarah: Now, this property might be exactly what you're looking for.
Dave: Does it have adequate ventilation?
Green: We talked about this...
Dave: For regular household purposes, of course.
Sarah: Actually, it has a very modern air circulation system. Fit for totally regular household purposes.
Dave: Perfect for Cola storage!
Green: Normal storage, Dave. Normal.
Sarah: Your coke will be adequately cooled.
Dave: The garden's quite big in the photos.
Sarah: Yes, nearly an acre.
Dave: Enough room for a... collection?
Green: Don't say it.
Dave: Of perfectly normal garden features.
Sarah: Shall we head over?
Dave: Just let me grab my measuring tape.
Green: No measurements today.
Dave: But how will I know if the T-Rex will fit?
Green: He means the garden furniture. Normal garden furniture.
Dave: With tiny arms...
Green: David!
[Scene Two]
Int. The House - Midday
[They enter through a large hallway]
Sarah: As you can see, there's plenty of natural light.
Dave: The Cola bike would look amazing right there.
Green: Or a normal bike.
Sarah: And this room could be perfect for a home office...
Dave: Or a shrine!
Green: Study. He means study.
Dave: Look at those reinforced joists!
Sarah: Yes, the previous owner was quite particular about structural integrity.
Dave: The porcupine would approve...
Sarah: The kitchen is through here...
Dave: EMERGENCY SUPPLIES ROOM!
Green: Regular kitchen, Dave.
Dave: With an egg timer!
Sarah: Yes, and all the appliances are fairly new, too.
Dave: It's perfect for timing Cola experiments
Green: It's for cooking eggs, Dave. Eggs.
Dave: And look at the storage potential!
Sarah: The cupboards are quite spacious.
Dave: For my Cola collection!
Green: And food, too, David. You need to put food in your kitchen.
[Scene Three]
Int. The Garden - Afternoon
[Dave paces out measurements while Sarah and Green watch]
Dave: [points to a tree in the garden] And the heavenly cat could float right there...
Sarah: The previous owners maintained the garden beautifully.
Dave: Perfect landing zone.
Green: For what?
Dave: Emergency Cola deliveries!
Sarah: There's also a secure shed...
Dave: BACKUP STORAGE FACILITY!
Green: Garden tools, Dave. Just garden tools.
Dave: Does the egg timer come with the house?
Sarah: The one in the kitchen?
Dave: Yeah.
Sarah: I'm... not sure. I'll have to ask the vendors.
Green: Is it really that important, Dave? We can buy you a new egg timer.
Dave: But this one's been pre-calibrated to the house's timestream.
Sarah: To what?
Dave: And the garage has perfect ventilation for all my servers and things.
Green: Gosh, Dave, you look happy with this one.
Sarah: Shall we discuss making an offer?
Dave: Can I just check one thing?
Sarah: Sure.
Dave: Will the sprinkler system handle carbonated liquids?
Green: And we're done. Thank you, Sarah.
