"It's ok," I said to myself as the pile of controllers expanded before my very eyes. "The drawer beneath the consoles is still empty. They'll all fit snuggly in there, and I can even use my Platdude Curtain Material to give them a lovely cushioning inside the drawer."
The VCR, 3 old Laptops and a Scanner, all fitted snuggly in the old Controllers drawer, and the wall of old Hard Drives settled in-between everything.
Now I just had to move the controllers over to that one empty drawer at the other end of the room, and.
UHOH!!!
That's not an empty drawer!!!
That's a Buffalo NAS, a Western Digital MyCloud NAS, a giant tin of Lego Minifigs, a few Lego baseplates, a disk-holder with important boot-disks and the like, and a series of old Atari ST Boxed games. Oh, and some Amstrad CPC tapes, too.
... When did I fill that?!
Oh no..
So, I hunted high and low for a new place to put all the controllers, before reluctantly digging out the wall of old HDD's, squeezing most of the controllers back into the controller drawer, and using a couple of old shoebox to fit all the Wiimotes and hard drives into.
*sigh*
The VCR had to come back out, too, and is now sat on top of the last remaining moving box, which contains mostly 90s TV character plushies.
I'd say it was roughly 2 hours of work, yesterday, and in the end about 80% of what I did had to be undone.
That was an incredibly wasteful amount of effort.
The prospect of having to do a much larger bedroom reorganisation is looking rather plausible right now.

So, um, Advent starts tomorrow, and .. yeah, that's not happening, is it.?
But keep an eye out over on SoCoder, because there is at least going to be something gamey going on.
I won't say anything more than that. Spoilers, and all..
Exciting!!
Code : 0/5 - No coding again? For shame, Jay
Worked : 1/5 - What I did do, didn't really work out!
Fun : 2/5 - That's an awful lot of old hard drives. I might have to have a nosey..

Storage (Boxes)
Storage (Shelves)
Storing things
I'll store them well.
Storage (Units)
Storage (Bags)
I store the older
Tech that lags
[verse]
Tons of games, from years gone by,
Tapes and disks that pile so high.
Controllers tangled in a web,
Where will they go, I start to dread.
Under the bed, there's barely space,
Old consoles crammed into that place.
In cupboards, wardrobes, corners too,
My retro stash it grew and grew.
[chorus]
Storage (Boxes)
Storage (Shelves)
Storing things
I'll store them well.
Storage (Units)
Storage (Bags)
I store the older
Tech that lags
[verse]
The memories, they live in here,
The hours spent, the joy, the cheer.
Each disk a loved and treasured tale,
Some games were won, whilst others fail.
One day I guess I'll sort it out,
And all things will be moved about.
Until that day, the collection grows,
And with it come more storage woes.
[chorus]
Storage (Boxes)
Storage (Shelves)
Storing things
I'll store them well.
Storage (Units)
Storage (Bags)
I store the older
Tech that lags
[Dave's bedroom. The room is stripped bare except for lining paper on the walls. Dave and Green are measuring things while Dave scrawls notes everywhere]
Dave: Right, TV mount here, above where the Cola dispenser will go.
[Dave scrawls an X on each corner of the TV mount]
Green: You're actually planning things out? That's... unusually thoughtful.
Dave: Well, after the bunker fiasco, I've learned that planning is important.
[Dave continues drawing on the wall]
Dave: Emergency device charging station here, backup Cola storage there...
Green: Is that another pulley system?
Dave: Of course! For when I need to get things from downstairs without getting up.
Green: They had those in the Victorian days. Maybe you're secretly Victorian?
Dave: The biscuits or the sponge cake? I can get either of those. Do you think I need extra storage for them?
Green: No, I think you can probably just sit those on the desk.
[Dave steps back, admiring his sketches]
Dave: Computer desk here, with reinforced flooring underneath.
Green: Just in case.
Dave: Do you think I should add wall mounts for the keyboard tray?
Green: How heavy is the keyboard?
Dave: Not very. It's the gallons of coke I'm worried about.
[Green examines some of Dave's calculations]
Green: Dave, these measurements...
Dave: All precise! Like a hospital computer system.
Green: They're all based on coke can and bottle sizes.
Dave: It's a perfectly valid unit of measurement! Everyone knows how big three coke bottles are. Nobody knows how big your feet are.
Green: Maybe use metric numbers for these things.
Dave: Don't worry. The coke cans and bottles are all in millilitres.
[Dave draws an elaborate wiring diagram]
Dave: And this is where all the power will run.
Green: Through your bed?
Dave: Under, Greenie. Under. I'm not mad. That way I can charge my phone while I sleep.
Green: That seems... unsafe.
Dave: Oh, Greenie, you always worry. What could possibly go wrong?
