As I've blogged for the past week or so, me and Mum have both been down with a horrific version of the flu, and as much as it's getting better, Mum was struggling with her breathing yesterday. She may or may not have had an asthma attack, we're not quite sure.
So, we rang up our new GP, and they suggested she needed to head to A&E.
We go through this practically every time a flu/asthma issue happens, almost every other year, and our old GP would've normally just prescribed some steroids, but I guess this new GP isn't up on how we do things, so .. ..
We got our neighbour to drop us off at the local hospital.
The hospital, as the crow flies, is closer to us than the GP. But there's a ruddy great river in the way, so to get there we have to go all the way into town and back out again. Bit of a pain in the arse, but .. OK, whatever. Stupid "world" being all lumpy and hilly and wet and shit..
So we got there ok, and neighbour waved us goodbye and told up which part of the hospital we should be going to.
We headed in, Mum got through the triage within about 10 minutes, and then we sat waiting for her to be seen to, which took about half hour or so.
Things were going well! We'd be home within the hour, surely!
...
..
.... Right?!
Oxygen levels were the main concern, with Mum's Blood Oxygen being "borderline low", so they put her on a drip, gave her oxygen, etc.
A couple of hours later, more tests, and though her Bloody Oxygen had gotten better, it was still borderline after all the things they'd given her.
They opted to double-down, do pretty much the exact same things, and another couple of hours later.. Still borderline.. uhoh!!!
A few more tests..
Gosh, this was taking FAR too long, but safety first, right?
By this point in the day, My Uncle had been asked to come and pick me up, because it was looking a lot like they were going to be keeping Mum in overnight, and then all of a sudden, everything seemed to just slot into place.
The doctor took Mum away for another quick test, agreed she was OK enough to go home but with the requirement to record some stats for the next week or so.
I've set up a spreadsheet (woohoo!) to record a bunch of stats. Bloody Oxygen, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and Peak Flow.
A week of that, and then we'll get down to the GP with a nice big printed spreadsheet full of numbers.
.. Numbers are awesome!

Lyrics : I started this, but ChatGPT did a heck of a lot of the work.
Sound Imported : Knitted Mittens > Reveal 🔎
[chorus]
Count it. Track it. Mark it. Stack it.
Steps and beats, My stats completed.
Log it. Graph it. Watch it. Map it.
Health in rows, That’s how it goes.
Tick it. Check it. Graph it. Wreck it.
More is less, But still you stress it.
Post it. Share it. Judge it. Wear it.
Health on show for all to know it.
[verse]
Numbers, Values, Healthy stats.
Beats per Minutes, Things like that.
Oxygen and pressure too.
How much sugar is in you?
[verse]
Walking steps, and climbing stairs.
Chart your sleep like someone cares.
Weight and height, a number tracked.
Then see your health in charts that stack.
[chorus]
Count it. Track it. Mark it. Stack it.
Steps and beats, My stats completed.
Log it. Graph it. Watch it. Map it.
Health in rows, That’s how it goes.
Tick it. Check it. Graph it. Wreck it.
More is less, But still you stress it.
Post it. Share it. Judge it. Wear it.
Health on show for all to know it.
[verse]
Calories burned, and water sipped.
Daily goals you almost skipped.
Heart rate spikes, stress is high.
The spreadsheet knows, it doesn’t lie.
[verse]
BMI and sleeping zones.
Tracked alone on glowing phones.
Green or red, your health’s displayed.
But are you fit, or just well-played?
[chorus]
Count it. Track it. Mark it. Stack it.
Steps and beats, My stats completed.
Log it. Graph it. Watch it. Map it.
Health in rows, That’s how it goes.
Tick it. Check it. Graph it. Wreck it.
More is less, But still you stress it.
Post it. Share it. Judge it. Wear it.
Health on show for all to know it.
Int. Dave's Study
[Dave is hunched over his desk with an electronics kit, a Sodastream cylinder, and several microchips]
Dave: If Microsoft can do it, so can I!
Green: Dave, you can't carbonate a microchip.
Dave: Bill probably said the same thing before he stole my idea.
Green: Nobody stole your idea.
Dave: It's easy enough. I just need to get the bubbles inside the chip...
[Dave holds up a chip and examines it through a magnifying glass]
Dave: There must be a way in. Maybe if I drill some tiny holes...
Green: Please don't drill holes in computer components.
Dave: But how else will the carbonation get in?
Green: It's not supposed to get in! That's not how quantum computing works!
Dave: That's what they want you to think. But look at how well the Effervescent Engine works. I know I can do this.
Green: Without any bubbles?
Dave: Where's the fun if there's no bubbles?
[Dave connects a small tube to the Sodastream cylinder]
Dave: If I can just pressurize it enough...
Green: Dave, remember when the house was full of bubbles?
Dave: Yeah?
Green: This is worse than that. Imagine the entire inside of your computer full of watery bubbles, all exploding all around.
[Dave imagines a beautiful foamy wonderland with bright sparks of colourful vibrancy, all inside his glass-fronted PC]
Dave: No no, it's fine, watch! I've got it all worked out!
[Dave carefully positions the tube near the chip]
Dave: Once the bubbles get in, it'll be just like Microsoft's quantum chip!
Green: It really won't.
Dave: But look at their video! It's all bubbles and floating data!
Green: That's just a visualisation, Dave. That's not really what happens.
Dave: Maybe that's because it wasn't carbonated enough!
[Dave reaches for the Sodastream release valve]
Green: Dave, don't...
Dave: Dave Yes! For science!!
[The pressurised gas sends the chip flying across the room]
Dave: Hmm. Maybe I need more pressure.
Green: Or maybe you need to leave the quantum computing to Microsoft.
Dave: They're probably using special Microsoft bubbles. I bet Bill's got a big bubble pump set up in his garage.
Green: I'm off before you try to carbonate your motherboard.
