The current boxes aren't quite standing out, well enough, so I need to rejig them a bit to make them stand out better.
It's not too bad when static, but when frantically rushing down the "mineshaft", it can be quite hard to plan a route.
I've also made the "death from above" a little too fast, so will be balancing that out a little so you don't need to constantly run like the clappers to keep from dying!
There's another planned box type to add to the game, and the obvious "falling off the level" death hasn't been added yet, either, but for the most part, this game seems to be coming together really rather well!
Woot!

The level drawing has been optimised to hell and back, but I've still got a backup drawing method for systems that can't quite cope, which renders the cubes as pre-lit cubes instead of three separate chunks (top and two sides).
... Not that you can tell when you're speeding down the mineshaft at at an alarming rate, though!
The main issue, for now, is the rushing. And whether it's a teensy bit too fast. I wanted this game to be "Fast and frantic", and that's absolutely what it is, but is it perhaps "too" fast?
Maybe I should make that the "Easy/Normal/Hard" difference for this game.
I'll have to try out various speeds and see what does or doesn't work for the game.
It's all about the balance, at this point.
Either way, it's fun to blunder your way down, and rack up the points as you do!

[verse]
Birthday's over and the party's done.
We've had some cake and plenty of fun.
All the drinks have been consumed,
So normal coding is now resumed.
(yeah)
[pre-chorus]
Back to the coding, back to the cow.
Back in the mineshaft, at least for now.
As he hops down the cubes to the land down below,
He's off on an adventure to a place he doesn't know.
(woo)
[chorus]
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (mineshaft)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (alright)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (lantern)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (yeah)
[verse]
Balance the gameplay so it isn't too fast,
So that people can play it without coming last.
All the evils that make it so hard to play,
Should be held for a while, to make an easier day.
[bridge]
Sometimes it feels like our hero has a tricky path ahead, as he ventures deeper into the winding mineshaft.
Luckily, he’s got his trusty lantern to light the way, helping him spot where to hop next.
As long as he finds ways to keep the lantern glowing, he’ll be just fine navigating the endless staircase of cubes.
But stay sharp—some paths lead to unexpected turns, and you never know what’s waiting below.
[chorus]
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (mineshaft)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (alright)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (lantern)
do dudu, do dudu do, do dudu do, do (yeah)
[Dave is excitedly setting up a new piece of equipment - a small robot with blinking lights]
Green: [entering] What the heck is that?
Dave: It's one of those digital pet things from the 90s. But I've enhanced it.
Green: Enhanced how exactly?
Dave: Well, instead of just feeding it pixels, I'm feeding it actual data packets!
[The robot makes a happy chirping sound]
Dave: See? It likes System32 files for breakfast.
Green: Dave, you can't feed system files to a virtual pet.
Dave: Already did! Look how happy it is! I call him Nibbles.
Green: Nibbles?
Dave: Because he nibbles the data! Watch...
[Dave starts typing, the robot chirps and whirs]
Dave: See? He's processing the fragments, split into happy little data bubbles using the latest version of PhileSplitter.
Green: Is it safe to give it bubbles?
Dave: Of course! How else would it eat?
Green: They don't normally actually eat, Dave. Everything's little animations, it's all simulated.
[Nibbles starts making increasingly complex beeping patterns]
Dave: Oh! He's learning to sing!
Green: That's singing? It sounds like a modem.
Dave: Listen, it sounds like Old Long Sign.
Green: Dave...
Dave: Shh! This is the good part!
[The robot starts playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" in perfect beep-code]
Dave: See? He's got perfect pitch!
Green: That isn't even Auld Lang Syne.. Did you just create a Rickrolling robot?
Dave: No, Nibbles did that all by himself. He's got good taste!
