Woke up with coding on my mind, and settled down to some nice structured workflow.
I got quite a bit more done on this week's JSE game, and though the game flows well enough, I'm not 100% sure on the scoring mechanics, mostly because it's possible to get 100%, and once you've got 100%, what more is there to do with the game?
You can't ever beat that score. The game is practically done with.
So I've been trying to decide on the best option for how to extend the game or its score, beyond that point.
So I sat and I wondered and a I pondered and ...
One thing lead to another, and I ordered a new iPhone 16.
As disjointed as that thought process seems. .. .. Is as disjointed as that thought process was!
It was my birthday 2 weeks ago, and I'd still not treated myself to anything "Big!!".
I've been wondering for a while whether I should go for just a camera or grab a new phone, and then we had that horrific day in A&E the other day when my phone's battery died mid-way.
Yeah, bugger it, I'll buy a new phone.
So I ordered a 256Gb iPhone 16. I know the Pro has the ultra-wide, but it's not as if I ever go anywhere where I can take nice long zooms. For me, having a good Macro is more than enough, and the iPhone 16 delivers that perfectly well.
..
And then I sat and I waited for my new phone to arrive..
And I couldn't concentrate on my code or anything.
That was the whole day wasted!!!
So I spent time setting up backups and the like, and when the Phone arrived around 6pm, I had enough time to do the transfer, flush out the old iPhone, and prepare everything for this morning, where I can take lovely close up photos of tat, and realise just how much dusting I need to do!!!
[chorus]
Sitting and waiting impatiently.
My phone's on a delivery van.
I'm watching it live on the map as it drive to my home.
It's on a tracker. (woo)
[verse]
Only Nine more stops until it gets here. (look at it go)
I've never been to the town that it's in. (So far away)
I'll maybe have a Google. (clickity click)
Gosh that looks nice.
(It has a town hall.)
(There's lots of people.)
(Is there a Greggs?)
(I'll have a sausage roll.)
[break]
[chorus]
Sitting and waiting impatiently.
My phone's on a delivery van.
I'm watching it live on the map as it drive to my home.
It's on a tracker. (woo)
[verse]
Only Five more stops now it's getting real close. (It's over the bridge)
It's not far away, it's in my neighbourhood. ('round the corner)
I'm getting excited. (Oooh)
It's nearly arrived. (yeay)
I watch as it drives
Around the streets where I've strolled.
I see it arriving,
And leap to my feet.
[break]
[bridge]
Yeay, Yeah. I got a new phone.
Hurray, Wooo. I open the box.
Weee, Yeah. There isn't even a charger.
Or a lovely apple sticker I can add to my collection that I've got inside a drawer upon my desk where I've collected all the bright and shiny apple stickers all throughout the years that I've been buying Apple products.
[beat] What a rip..
[break]
[chorus]
Sitting and waiting impatiently.
My phone's doing it's first update.
I'm waiting as it transfers all my files across from my old phone.
It's taking ages.
Sitting and waiting impatiently.
It's only half an hour to go.
I'm waiting as it transfers all the data that it needs to do.
It's taking ages. (yeah!!)
Int. Dave's Study - Late Morning
[Dave proudly holding a printed sheet, Green looking unimpressed]
Dave: "Count Duckula 2"
Green: And we're off..
Dave: This is a game where you play as Count Duckula. Graphics are alright. Sound is there. Three out of ten.
Green: Is that it?
Dave: Well, yeah.
Green: Five whole lines? Including the title?
Dave: It's got all the information you need.
Green: It really doesn't.
Dave: I kept it concise! Like those old magazine reviews!
Green: What magazines were you reading? All of my magazines had actual content, Dave. And screenshots. And weren't just about Count Duckula.
Dave: Oh yeah, I could add screenshots!
Green: Of the same game forty-seven times?
Dave: No, I ordered the job lot of games yesterday. I'll have plenty of variety to keep my new website busy.
Green: You ordered it?
Dave: Yeah. You told me to make a website, remember?
Green: I didn't "tell you to". I merely suggested it would be easier than opening a retro game store.
Dave: Fine! Right, I'll add more detail to my writeup, then. "The graphics move from left to right..."
Green: You should really try to write about things that are unique to each game. Otherwise 90 percent of games will have identical reviews.
Dave: Not true. Outrun doesn't go left to right.
Green: Maybe 80%. But "left to right" certainly does describe a heck of a lot of games.
Dave: "It's got personality!"
Green: Dave, if you're going to do reviews, do them properly.
Dave: They say you should inject your personality into reviews.
Green: [worried] Maybe dial that down, though.
Dave: But first, I need to test more games...
Green: Oh joy.
Dave: Now, where's that delivery van?
