"Gosh, Jay, you seem to have spent way too much time 'spring cleaning' over the past few days. .. What happened to the Neon Tower thing?"
-=-=-
Yeah, what happened to that..?
Well, it's about 75% complete, and as I opened the code to finish it off yesterday, I realised that the last 25% wasn't really doable in a day.
How do I fix this horrific situation, but still manage to post a brand new game this week?
...
Why, I do what I always do, and write a completely different, totally unplanned, brand new game in a day!!
I'll be posting "Sticky, not Stacky" later today. Just need to balance the scoring a little more.
It looks great, but the gameplay's fairly one-dimensional.
And I couldn't manage to get a whole physics/stacking thing working, so I skimped out, and now the blocks don't stack in the slightest, so I'm pretty much wimping out on the month's theme for this one.
Hurray for laziness!!
But also, hurray for managing to somehow come up with a weird game in the space of 24 hours.
I'll get that finished today, post it, then hop back to the Neon Tower thing.
... So.. I'll go do that, then!
Off I go...
Meanwhile
You'll be happy to know that, making use of an external Sandisk SSD that I have for backup purposes, I successfully managed to get all the Dreamcast Roms over onto the RogAlly, and everything is golden.
..
And how the heck did I forget that the Dreamcast has no right-thumbstick. Good grief, playing Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament just isn't great without the Dreamcast's Keyboard+Mouse.
And I can't get PC Unreal Tournament to play nice on the RogAlly, either.
PC Quake III Arena, in its current condition, still won't play nice on there, either.
ugh..
[verse]
I see you balance on the pivot of the see-saw.
Standing between the left and the right in a perfectly positioned spot.
The see-saw will not tilt at all,
While you continue standing in the middle of the bar.
[chorus]
Your balance is outstanding.
I love to see you standing,
on the See-Saw. (See saw)
That's where I saw you first.
I brought a cup a coffee,
But you didn't take my offer.
It could tilt the See-Saw,
Before it quenched your thirst.
[break]
[verse]
Your stillness is a miracle to me.
Perfectly centered, defying gravity.
One step could change the balance, though,
You must remain, and don't to let go.
The world could spin, you won't descend
Your posture straight, there is no end
I watch in wonder at your poise
Suspended there without a noise
[chorus]
Your balance is outstanding.
I love to see you standing,
on the See-Saw. (See saw)
That's where I saw you first.
I brought a cup a coffee,
But you didn't take my offer.
It could tilt the See-Saw,
Before it quenched your thirst.
[break]
[bridge]
What keeps you balanced on the beam?
Your quiet strength, it haunts my dream
I want to reach you, but here I stay
Afraid my touch may cause a sway.
What secret holds you in this place?
A delicate and fragile grace
The slightest breath might make you fall
Yet you stand steady through it all
[break]
I long to understand your way
Finding balance day by day
[chorus]
Your balance is outstanding.
I love to see you standing,
on the See-Saw. (See saw)
That's where I saw you first.
I brought a cup a coffee,
But you didn't take my offer.
It could tilt the See-Saw,
Before it quenched your thirst.
[outro]
On the See-Saw (See-saw)
On the See-Saw (See-saw)
On the See-Saw (See-saw)
On the See-Saw (See-saw)

Int. Dave's Street
[Dave is carefully applying a large checkered sticker to his neighbour Fred's yellow car while Fred watches from his doorway. Green arrives from around the corner]
Dave: Seven stickers out of two rolls of tape!
Green: Dave, what are you doing?
Dave: I'm borrowing Fred's car to make a photo for the Crazy Taxi review.
Fred: [waves from doorway] Hello Mister Green.
Dave: But it needs to look exactly right! I even borrowed a taxi sign from Steve!
Green: Why does Steve have a Taxi sign?
Dave: ... Borrowed might be a strong word.
Green: This whole review thing is getting out of hand.
[Dave is now sat in Fred's car, making "vroom" noises]
Dave: Just one quick photo for the review!
Green: [sighs] OK, where's the camera?
Dave: You didn't bring your camera?
Fred: He told me you made it out of a toaster!
Dave: And parts of the fridge!
Green: That's not even remotely true. [beat] It's an old webcam with a battery pack and a floppy drive.
Fred: Right, I'll take the photo, then. Say cheese, David.
Green: No, Not more cheese!!!
Dave: Cheese!
[click]
Dave: I'll have to add the Taxi meter in post. Steve didn't have one.
Fred: OK, now get out of my car. I'll email you the photo, later.
Green: At least you didn't try to jump it over a bus this time.
Dave: ...yet.
Fred: What?
Green: Nothing! Dave, let's go inside and review the game normally.
[End credits roll as Dave tries to convince Green that "just one small jump" would make the review perfect]
