OK, I've posted a game for this week. Now there's only the Patreon First game to finish off.
-=-=-
I can probably get the majority of the game done over the next few days.
I need to..
1. Waves
Organise the waves that occur each "Battle Phase"
I'm thinking there should always be, maybe 50 (or 100?) enemies per Battle Phase
Probably have a predetermined number of larger boss enemies per round.
Likely a couple of mega-bosses, too.
Determine that at the start of the round, figure out the numbers, which paths they all take, then run through that like it's a script.
2. Shooting
The turrets aren't shooting yet!
I have to get distances done nice and fast between all the turrets, vs all the baddies. That might be tricky given JSE's general slowness when doing loops within loops.
Then I'd also need to fire bullets, and have a second set of bullet vs baddies.
... uhoh, that might be a problem, eh..?
3. Bonuses
Flowers, coins, that kind of thing. That shouldn't be too hard, but if the rest of the stuff slows down the engine, then the player movement might not feel all that great.
I'll need to balance, not only the gameplay, but the stress levels on JSE, in order to make the final game as playable as I can.
Limits on how many turrets/bullets/enemies there are, will likely be the better choice. .. Maybe!?
We'll see.
I fully expect, on the day of release, to see people grumbling about the game running at 2fps!
[verse]
Here I am, back at the castle again.
I've wrestled the sheep and the monkeys.
Protecting the turrets with arrows and darts,
As I shoot at the oncoming storm.
The battleground's lines have been drawn.
But they keep coming onwards, and out of the tower,
I blast all my weapons to keep them at bay.
And try as I might,
As I fight through the night.
They will keep on progressing towards me.
And the castle is glowing again.
So I'll fire my gun and I'll swing with my flower,
To protect all the people who live in the tower.
Then stand and protect all the neon bright paths,
From the hoards of the enemies that dare to attack.
[chorus]
The legions are coming.
They're closing the distance.
I see them descending,
So I ready my stance.
I'm sworn to protect,
All the people within.
With my big glowing flower,
I will not let them win.
I'll fight with my life,
And I won't let them in.
[verse]
Dawn is approaching, but the battle continues,
The enemies grow larger as the sun starts to lift.
My arms, exhausted from all of the battle,
As I try to relaxe, my heart pounding a drum.
And the neon keeps flashing and blinking around me,
A spectrum of chaos in red, green and blue.
The hoard is incoming, I stand proud and strong.
Determined to guard what remains of the castle.
They crawl from the shadows, glowing bright as they do,
Clawing and kicking, they fight their way through.
I'll stand my ground, here, with my back to the gate,
This battle, I fear, will soon seal my fate.
I fight for my castle.
I fight to succeed.
For those in the tower,
I'll fight 'til I bleed.
And my blood will be neon. The vibrancy bright.
I'll know when I win, that I've fought a good fight.
[chorus]
The legions are coming.
They're closing the distance.
I see them descending,
So I ready my stance.
I'm sworn to protect,
All the people within.
With my big glowing flower,
I will not let them win.
Int. Dave's Kitchen - Morning
[Dave stares at an official-looking letter while Green makes tea]
Dave: Seven pages out of two envelopes!
Green: Dave, that's a legal document, not a score.
Dave: No, really, look.
[Dave holds up seven pages]
Dave: But they can't do this over a review, can they?
Green: Let me see that... [reads] "Unauthorized use of intellectual property including taxi signage stolen from..."
Dave: Borrowed!
Green: "...and attempted recreation of gameplay mechanics using real vehicles."
Dave: Fred said it was fine! Well, eventually.
Green: Maybe they thought the photo was an attempt at a Crazy Taxi clone?
Dave: Like when Matt got upset about that Manic Miner thing?
[Dave starts rummaging through his fridge]
Green: What are you doing now?
Dave: Preparing for some Scrunch baking.
Green: Please tell me you're out of purple.
Dave: It's a new recipe we concocted, last night. The toaster helped!
Green: The toaster doesn't help anything, Dave.
Dave: It helps bread evolve into its final form. Anyway, I could make my own driving game! Without any taxis!
Green: Oh no, let's not go down that path.
Dave: Why not?
[Lady Computer displays a crude drawing of what appears to be Space Bikes]
Green: [facepalms] You two really need to stop.
Dave: No, these bikes have... um... taxi meters?
Green: And we're back to taxis. Maybe Sega were right to send you the Cease and Desist.
Dave: Desist... That's a funny word.
Green: Not when it lands you in court.
[End credits roll as Dave tries to explain how "Space Taxi Desistance" is completely different from Crazy Taxi]
