The new Air Fryer "Oven" sits at the end of this bench, under the cupboard used to hold glasses.
We're both very much aware that it shouldn't be under a cupboard, but there's a decent enough amount of clearance above the Air Fryer, and the cupboard actually has a lip under it, so is in fact even higher than it at first appears.
There's also the kitchen extractor fan literally right above where it's situated. So..
*shrugs*
The new air fryer oven is just out of shot on the very left, here. The old air fryer is just after the main over on the right.
The kitchen is more or less organised, now, but one of the reasons we got the Air Fryer Oven is to see how well we can cope without using the large main gas-based oven at all.
We'll be giving it a fair shake of the sauce bottle, and over the coming weeks, will be analysing how much we actually make use of the gas oven.
Obviously, right now, we're still using the hobs on it. But if we can switch to this smaller Air Fryer oven, it means we could conceivably remove the large oven from the kitchen entirely. Once removed, a new set of worktops will be put in, meaning we'd get a whole lot of more-useable work surfaces, and we'll probably also spend some time replacing the cabinets to a more logical layout. .. At this point, we'd be clearing that space above where the new Air Fryer oven currently is, as well as doing away with the "they look neat, but you can tell it's a set of Ikea Alex drawers" that are awkwardly sitting in a random space in the kitchen!!
Yeah, that's a lot of work to be done, if I'm honest. But since we moved to the bungalow, we hadn't yet considered changing the kitchen in the slightest.
It's only since we grabbed this air fryer, that we're starting to realise the possibilities that the changes could bring.
The chicken came out of the oven's rotisserie, deliciously.
I guess this is something I should've known, all along, because I've had a very similar experience with all my decades of coding.
It's not about trying to figure out the grand scheme, all in one go. That's too big.
Sometimes it's about making a simple start, and then seeing where that takes you.
We're starting with an Air Fryer. We've already shuffled the layout of the appliances. And now we're finally considering reconstructing the rest of the kitchen.
.. But maybe one bit at a time!
The kitchen changes all around me.
A toaster moves from bench to bench.
Where will the appliances end their tour,
As they roam around the kitchen once more.
I try the toaster towards the left hand side.
The kettle sits in front to hide,
Where I have placed the cup of teaspoons,
Which follows the placement of the kettle.
[pre-chorus]
I move the microwave again,
But it doesn't seem to be correct.
Perhaps I need a brand new bread bin,
So I can place the crumpets there, within.
[chorus]
What am I doing in the kitchen?
I'm moving all the things around. (All the things go round)
Hoping to find the right orientation,
Where all of my appliances can be found. (all the things are found)
Where are we going, in the kitchen?
The kettle spins from side to side. (Boiling all of the water)
Will the toaster ever find a place,
So that I can have my toast in the morning. (toast is great)
With some lovely healthy butter all around. (maybe jam, too.)
[bridge]
Move all the teaspoons, (they follow the kettle)
Move all the bread, (it follows the toaster)
Move the kitchen roll, (it follows the microwave)
Move the tea and the sugar and the coffee. (yeah)
[chorus]
What am I doing in the kitchen?
I'm moving all the things around. (All the things go round)
Hoping to find the right orientation,
Where all of my appliances can be found. (all the things are found)
Where are we going, in the kitchen?
The kettle spins from side to side. (Boiling all of the water)
Will the toaster ever find a place,
So that I can have my toast in the morning. (toast is great)
With some lovely healthy butter all around. (maybe jam, too.)
Int. Dave's Living Room
[Dave is quietly coding at his PC while Green sits on the couch]
Dave: Seven animations out of..
Green: Seriously, Dave. Stop with the Seven out of Two.
Dave: Aren't you interested in what the seven things out of two are?
Green: No, Dave. That joke ran out of steam seven days out of two weeks ago.
Dave: Hmmph.
Green: It's actually nice to see you just coding today. The past couple of weeks have been more than a little hectic.
Dave: Sure is. This is actually quite relaxing.
Green: What is it you're doing, anyway?
Dave: I'm adding bullets to PhileSplitter.
Green: [sighs] Of course you are. It's a utility, Dave. Why are you adding bullets?
Dave: I'm animating the splitting. Little tanks and rockets and bullets and lasers and things, splitting up the files as they go.
Green: Is this because you were playing Combat yesterday?
Dave: Maybe.
Green: That seems logically ok. Maybe try not to let this concept spiral into your typically chaotic style, though.
[Dave takes a sip of coke.]
Dave: Look, when it splits a file, the tanks shoot the data blocks!
Green: That's cute. This might be an improvement.
Dave: And then the space invaders come down...
Green: Oh no.
Dave: And then the fragments get collected by taxis...
Green: Dave, no! Remember the cease and desist!
Dave: It's fine, they're purple taxis.
Green: That doesn't make it better.
Dave: Look!!! ScrunchCakes!!
Green: Please, no...
[Dave starts making explosion noises]
Dave: Pew pew! The file is now in fourteen pieces!
Green: ...And that's it?
Dave: So far. The toaster's got some additional ideas.
Green: [sighs] I'm going to regret asking, but what ideas?
Dave: Real lasers! For authenticity! I'm going to add my old circuit board into the mix.
[End credits roll as Dave tries to convince Green that adding real laser hardware to PhileSplitter would be perfectly safe]
