"Rocket to the Sun" should be ready to go by the end of the day.
-=-=-
The game's "playable", but it's not quite as much fun as I thought it would be.
Today I'll tweak a few things and see if I can make things a bit more interesting and exciting to play.
It's workable, I reckon. Shouldn't be too hard to get into a better state.
One of the hardest things, right now, is the lack of death.
Sure, there's a singular type of enemy, but it doesn't seem all that deadly.
So, do I increase that enemy's difficulty, or do I add a different enemy?
Hmmm.
We'll see.
[verse]
Rocket, rocket, rocket, to the sun, sun, sun,
Blasting off on a trajectory to fun, fun, fun.
Keep the rocket fuel pumping through the bottom of the ship,
So the rocket keeps on flying through bright and sunny sky.
(woo)
[verse]
Soaring through the cloudy sky, you blast out of the atmosphere,
Up beyond the gravity that's pulling us down. (down, down)
Feeling all the forces as they try to pull you back,
But the rocket keeps blasting, as it journeys on its way.
(woo)
[break]
[bridge]
Up. Up we go. Let's go. Ready, go.
Stars up above, waiting to meet us.
Down. Down we see. People waving to us all.
Goodbye to everyone. (Goodbye)
We're off to see the sun. (Farewell)
"Cartoon Derek's rocket has been split into three parts and scattered over an 8-bit video level, large 2D platform level" by DrawThings / Flux
I was going to grumble that it didn't draw Greenie.. but then realised I hadn't actually specified "Cartoon Derek" to be in the pic. Only his rocket.
So.. Um.. Great job, DrawThings/Flux!
It understands possessive nouns.
Int. Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes - Monday Morning
[Dave is watching Green help a customer with Spectrum games]
Customer: So this is like Elite Dangerous, but really old?
Green: Not exactly, no. It's from 1984, so there are a few differences. But it's essentially the same game.
Customer: But it's got spaceships in it.
Green: Yes, but they're wireframe.
Customer: What's that?
Green: Oh. Um. It's when the computer isn't powerful enough to render full polygons, so it just draws lines.
Customer: How is that a good thing?
Green: You get to use your imagination!
Customer: I'm imagining I won't like this.
[Meanwhile at the cake counter]
Customer 2: They're for an office party.
Mrs Thompson: Oh, lovely. How many people?
Customer 2: About thirty. We need something special.
Mrs Thompson: ScrunchCakes are definitely special. We could do a nice varied selection.
Customer 2: That sounds great. [whispers] There won't be purple though, right?
Mrs Thompson: Don't worry.
[Dave overhears and walks over]
Dave: No Purple? But purple's the best!
Mrs Thompson: [sighs] Dave, nobody likes the purple ones.
Green: [calling from games section] Dave! Can you explain Elite again? I'm getting nowhere.
[Dave looks between both customers, panicking]
Dave: Always busy in the DaGaS shop!
[Dave heads over to the game customer]
Customer 2: What's a Doggies shop?
Mrs Thompson: [shakes head] I have no idea.
