OK, got all the way through Pass 2. All games are now seemingly working.
-=-=-
1. Jack on the Blocks - Seems fine
2. Only One Balloon - Seems fine
3. Follow the Path - Seems fine, but needed a little Global tweak before it worked!
4. Army of Flags - Seems fine
5. Airborne Mercenary - Seems fine
6. Bumper Pumpkin - Seems fine
7. Alexandra Muffin - Seems fine
8. Pogo the Fridge - Odd bug that I can't seem to figure out... Drawing a rectangle fixed it. Not sure why! I might have to look into this, because that's a VERY odd bug..
9. Harpoons & Balls - Seems fine.
10. Disk O' Green - Still rubbish ... Seems fine
11. Stars that Burst - Worked after a scaling tweak
12. Hillside Conquest - Works after a global tweak
13. Starfruit Harvest - Seems fine
14. Spiky Tower - Seems fine
15. Space Clusters - Seems fine, but I resized the "drop" so they're a bit more visible.
16. Endless Forest - Seems fine - Not 100% happy with this game, if I'm honest. I might see about reworking it, somehow.
17. Clusters of Hex - Seems fine
18. Blockman - Seems fine
19. Credits - Seems fine, though I have done a bit of rewording, and adding in my MacOS tools.
... I was still using Windows when I wrote the majority of Browsercade! Crikey!!
That feels so long ago.
And that's all the games passed over, checking they all work!
Hurray! Time to...
...
Pass Three!
For Pass Three I'll be removing the .mod based music and replacing it all with streaming mp3s from the AGameAWeek archive.
This will be done so that there's a nicer flow to the music, and frankly, the server seems to be handling that just fine with JSE and the like, so ... More pressure?! .. Should be ok.
I do love JMTrackr, but lately it's becoming much more obvious that it's very plinky-plonky music which an AI could do a better job of.
I'm wondering if I could get an AI Chatbot to write a better music generator that I could replace JMTrackr with..
Hmmm.
For now I'll be rummaging through each game, stripping out the JMTrackr stuff, and replacing it with MP3's, and that oughta be good to go.
I'm going to try to replace music with the same exact tunes, in MP3 format. A lot of the Browsercade mod music is reinterpreted versions, so it's not entirely impossible to replace one for the other. The problem is now mostly a case of "What the heck was that one called!!?", and me having to flick through hundreds of mp3s to find a soundalike, or at the very least a decent replacement.
[verse]
I ran through the game list,
All of the great hits.
Played them and tested,
They worked how they should.
Oh
[chorus]
All of the games work,
They all seem O.K.
I played them for hours.
I tested all day.
Yeah
I played with a gamepad,
And tried with the mouse.
But the mouse isn't perfect,
'Cos I've only one pointer.
Ooooh, yeah, yeah.
I've only one pointer.
[bridge]
I ran through the game list,
Some games were not great.
I might try to kill them,
Or maybe make them different.
[breakdown]
Spice them up. Yeah.
Up, to the top. Wooh
Gotta make them great. Hey.
Great, Yeah, great!! Woooh!
Oh Yeah.
[chorus]
All of the games work,
They all seem O.K.
I played them for hours.
I tested all day.
Yeah
I played with a gamepad,
And tried with the mouse.
But the mouse isn't perfect,
'Cos I've only one pointer.
Ooooh, yeah, yeah.
I've only one pointer.
[Dave and Mrs. Thompson are manning their regular stall at the Church Fete)
Dave: Another gloriously sunny Sunday. This is a lovely heatwave, isn't it, Mrs Thompson?
Mrs Thompson: I told you these chocolate ones wouldn't stand the heat. Look, they've already melted into sticky gloopy splodges.
Dave: True. We probably should've brought one of those mini fridges or something.
Mrs Thompson: Where would we plug it in?
Dave: Hmm..
[Vicar approaches, smiling warmly.]
Vicar: Good afternoon, David! And Mrs. Thompson! Lovely to see you both again.
Dave: Vicar! How's churchy things, today? Cake business is booming, as always!
Vicar: Please don't think of this as a business, David.
Dave: Oh, ok. Um. The not-selling-for-profit is booming!
Vicar: That's .. slightly better. I suppose.
Dave: The blessing of people with my Scrunch Surprise!
Mrs Thompson: David, behave yourself.
Dave: Sorry.
Vicar: Thank you, Mrs Thompson.
Dave: Don't suppose you have a plug socket out here, do you?
Vicar: A plug socket?
Dave: We were thinking of bringing a little fridge for the chocolate ScrunchCakes.
Vicar: Yes, they are a bit. [pokes a splodge into a ScrunchCake] .. umm.
Mrs Thompson: I thought you were giving up the fete for the year?
Vicar: Indeed we were, but it seems the sun will continue to bless us for another few weeks.
Dave: (Nodding vigorously) Exactly! Divine intervention, I say! A sign that ScrunchCakes and classic gaming are meant to be shared with the world.
Vicar: I wouldn't put it that way.
Mrs Thompson: (Offering a different plate of ScrunchCakes to the Vicar) Here you go. Freshly baked, this morning, Vicar. Your favorite raspberry swirl!
Vicar: (Taking a cake with a grateful smile) Oh, glorious. Thank you, Mrs. Thompson. Youβre always so thoughtful.
