Beta Collexion was my Advent Calendar of Games for 2015. 26 wonderfully playable little games, all wrapped in a lovely giftwrapped bundle.
The games are now unlocked, and can be played at any time. Beta Collexion can be found here, in the Jayenkai Archive. You can Download it for Windows, Play it in your browser via GameJolt, Play it on OUYA or a Razer Forge/Cortex device, Play it on a PlayJam GameStick, or even download an .apk if you have a suitable Game Controller enabled Android device. If you'd like to see videos of all of these games, Otakupunk played each and every one, as part of his 2015 Advent Calendar. You can See those, here. Army of FlagsA teensy weeny, mini micro, baby edition of Cannon-Fodder! Controls Move and Shoot. You can only fire left and right, and not at all whilst carrying a flag. How Not To Lose Gather up all the flags and position them on your base. Avoid enemy shots and kill as many of the enemies as you can before picking up a flag. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements As far as future-enhancements go, this game could indeed be quite a bit bigger and better. I'd like to add plenty of stuff to this, and make it into a larger game. I imagine a multiplayer version would also be quite fun to play. You'll no doubt be seeing more of this, soon. -=-=- Bobby Hops AgainBobby goes back to basics. Controls Classic Bobby Tap to hop, Hold to jump! How Not To Lose Don't fall! Reach the Green platform to move on to the next level. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements For some bizarre reason, I couldn't get the rainbow to lock together, this time! Weird!! Not sure how I originally did that. Hmm.. I keep meaning to make a proper Hoppy Bobby sequel, but it never seems to turn out very well. I guess Hoppy Bobby isn't really all that expandable. -=-=- Crazy Painting BallRoll the Ball to the Disk Controls Directions to rolls. How Not To Lose Don't fall! The ball's momentum is very quirky, so be sure not to roll too fast. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I could probably have added some different enemy types to this, and maybe some bumpers and other Monkey-Ball-esque elements to the area. But I was rushing!! -=-=- Dark Dressed NinjaGuide the Dark Dressed Ninja down the corridor. Controls Left and Right to move. Down to activate a Mine. Up to hide in Alcoves. How Not To Lose Use the alcoves to your advantage. Not only can you hide from the cameras, you can also hide from explosions, too. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I do wonder if I made the "Up to Hide" thing obvious enough.. This is the one game out of the bunch where I actually considered adding a tutorial, but in the end it would've seemed out of place. Hopefully people can figure it out..? As an engine, it's a simple enough start which could easily be enhanced. A larger version will probably have you stumbling around a larger 2 dimensional facility, rather than the straight line, here. -=-=- Eggcellent EggventureGather up gifts for your friends. Controls Left and right, and Button to Jump. Up or Down to collect objects. How Not To Lose Each of your friends would like two specific gifts. Gather them up and walk up to the friend to give them what they want. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements One Day, One Developer : How much of a Dizzy Clone can I manage!? I was going to do a whole storyline, and a proper Dizzy-like adventure/parody, but again.. Time got the better of me.. Instead, I managed to bundle this together within just a day, and it's enough, I suppose. Would I tackle a larger Dizzy-like adventure? I'm not entirely sure. *shrugs* -=-=- Frantically Flapping FreddyA Flappy Game!? Controls Button to Flap, directions for movement. How Not To Lose Watch for the direction of the incoming explosion of oddities, then try your best to avoid them. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Maybe bonus objects that you have to collect, intermingled within the debris. But.. Not really much more you can do, here! -=-=- Golf PuttzPutt the ball towards the hole. Controls Left and Right to aim. Up and Down to select power. Button to Thwack. How Not To Lose You only have a few strokes per level, so try not to go crazy with the hitting! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Very quirky physics! .. Intentionally quirky, but quite possibly a little "TOO" quirky! A future rejig would probably mix up more elements, and make the game a bit better. Think of this, only as a starting point. -=-=- Happy HerderGuide the Sheep into the Pen. Controls Directions to move. How Not To Lose Keep an eye on the timer, upper right. Run behind the sheep to guide them into the pen, and be quick about it! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements This game's turned out a little duller than I was aiming for. Might have been more manageable if I zoomed the camera out a bit? Aw well, never mind.. -=-=- Inexplicably Explosive BoxesExplosives are Fun! Controls Directions to move, Button to explode. How Not To Lose You need to blow up most of the boxes to move on to the next level. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I should probably have used big bright colourful circles, instead of the generic particles, for the explosion pieces. They're not always that noticeable on a big screen. The game works all right, but as with a lot of these games, could've been much more interesting. -=-=- Judo BotsFight against the training bots. Controls Left/Right to run. Hold Button and Left/Right to hit in that direction. Hold Button and Up/Down to jump to that level. How Not To Lose Don't let a bot see you, or it'll zap you. Always be behind the bot! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I quite like this game. But it could easily be so much bigger and better. Pickups, Enemy types, Bosses... There's loads of ways to improve this game. .. *shrugs* -=-=- Kamikaze Kernel PopperSpace Popcorn!! Controls Directions to Move Use your trusty popper to pop the corn. How Not To Lose Try not to smash into any Space Popcorn! There's no Black-Hole powerups, this time, so there's no way to get rid of the popcorn. Just keep popping, and hope for the best. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements It's different, but I'm not sure if it's better than how the original game worked. It's nice, though. -=-=- Lag AttackGhostly goings on, with your controller. Controls Left/Right and Jump How Not To Lose Spike.. Dislike!! Beware the Lag. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements This is sort of the semi-sequel to Penguin Parade from Alpha Collexion. It works ok, but I think I enjoyed the sight of all the little penguins, better. I'll keep this gameplay mechanic in mind during 2016, so you're bound to see it again, soon. -=-=- Mummy EscapeEscape from the Tomb of the Mummies! Controls Directions to Move How Not To Lose Don't let the Mummies catch you! Open the chests to find the key, then hunt for the Exit. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Objects, Weapons, Powerups, Different enemies.. This is a mini-mini version of Greenie's Mini Quest! -=-=- Nuke ToucanGuide the Rocket to Nuke the Toucan. Controls Left and Right to turn. How Not To Lose Stay on the path, and destroy that Toucan. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements A case of a silly game name popping into my head. This game's very much lacking in substance! -=-=- Otakupunk vs Space ScorpionsShoot the Scorpions! Controls Directions and Fire How Not To Lose Don't touch the Scorpions. Blast them all away, and move on to the next room. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I did a LOT of playing around with this engine. The game has 1,000,000 rooms. I'm going to be hoping that nobody reaches room 1,000,000, because it unceremoniously stops at that point!! Ooops! Things to note. .. Those Scorpions don't look realistic at all. .. The blaster weapon is a little overpowering. I could probably have toned that down a notch or two. .. Hey, that's the character from Alien Deathmatch! .. I do hope that Otakupunk forgives me!! -=-=- Pob's Paths of ImprobabilityHop your way through the paths. Controls Tap directions to move. How Not To Lose Don't fall, and try not to be too slow. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Depending on your controller option, this game can either be one to love, or one to hate. Just hope you have a decent DPad! -=-=- Quirky MonstersMonsters! Controls Left and Right to Run. Up and Down to use Ladders. Fire and Left/Right to melt/repair the floor. How Not To Lose Don't let the monsters get you! (And don't fall off the bottom of the screen!!) Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Nothing that isn't already in the original 8-bit versions!! -=-=- Rolly BallsBump balls off the table. Controls Directions to move. How Not To Lose Don't fall! And watch out for the Pinks! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements On the day I coded this, I sat down with the intention of finally making a decent set of "Snooker/Pool" ball collision physics, which I could then move into a future proper Pool game. I've tried it many, many, MANY times before, but it's never quite worked out right. .. But this time.. Mmmmm.. This is where JNK Pool started! With any luck, that'll turn out quite nicely! -=-=- Sea CalamityFloat along and shoot stuff. Controls Up and down to move. Fire to Fire! How Not To Lose Don't touch ANYTHING.. Even the walls will kill you. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Powerups, Baddy Types, graphical styles, predefined layouts, the usual stuff. All could be added to make a bigger/better adventure. Cramming the entire game's development into the space of just a day, doesn't help variety!! -=-=- Thrusty SaverHunt the Disks! Controls Left/Right to turn. Button to Thrust. How Not To Lose Don't smash into the walls. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements A nice enough game, but no enemies, and no little bubble thing to rescue. I could easy add so much more to this game. Hmmmm.. -=-=- Universal GooKeep the Goo from leaving the confines of the screen. Controls Left and Right to turn. Up to Thrust. Button to shoot. How Not To Lose There are many ways to lose. Smashing into things, shooting the planet, hitting the walls. Try not to do those! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements FACT : This game was originally title "Uranus is Leaking!" ... -=-=- Vortex BlasterShoot all the Bad Guys Controls Up and down to move. Button to Fire. How Not To Lose Don't let the bullets hit you!! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements A simple little Space-Invaders style game. Nothing more.. Nothing less.... Just a shooter. The usual supply of powerups and bosses would've made this better, but time wasn't on my side! -=-=- Wall That FallsBoring? Controls Left and Right. Button to Launch How Not To Lose You know how not to lose in this game. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I intended to make a more original Breakout clone, but .. I didn't. This is a boring Breakout clone. Sorry -=-=- Xploding MissilesStop the Missiles Controls Directions to move, and Button to fire. How Not To Lose Stop ALL the missiles! Oh, and don't run out of missiles, yourself. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements I was worried that this game wouldn't work without a mouse/trackball to control it, but it actually seems to work reasonably well. I might revisit this concept in the future, but try to make something more original out of it. -=-=- You Get ThreeA simple Match 3 game. Controls Directions to Move. Button to Swap. How Not To Lose The timer is incredibly fast. Keep going!! Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements Again, a case of trying out a control scheme. Can a fast paced Match-3 work with just a control pad? Sure seems to work well enough. Nice to know! -=-=- Zany GiftsSend out the Gifts. Controls Left and right to run. Hold Button to hold Gift. How Not To Lose Don't send out bombs, as gifts. Don't throw good gifts out, as bombs. Keep an eye on what's coming down the chute. Bugs/Improvements/Enhancements A lovely little fast-paced "Game and Watch" style game. Any further complications would probably break the playability of this game. As it is, it's probably as good as it'll get. -=-=- Beta Collexion was my Advent Calendar of Games for 2015. 26 wonderfully playable little games, all wrapped in a lovely giftwrapped bundle.
