SmileBASIC 4 - Available Now!
Blog
23rd April 2020
You can find it in the Nintendo Switch eShop, (once your country's timezone hits the sweet spot!) and begin your creation adventure.
-=-=- The language is oldskool BASIC, but with a few handy kicks to make it more powerful. If you're familiar with Blitz, you should be right at home. Full sprite control, wonderful layering system, and an MML based music engine, are all at your fingertips, as well as access to a multitude of controllers, mouse and keyboard access, touchscreen things, and even ToyCon support. I've written a VERY short (and not very well put together) tutorial thing, here, if you'd like to have a look at the BASIC syntax, and other such things. Follow along and you'll have a simple grasp of input, output, sprites and the command structure. If you're used to other languages, it should be easy enough to grasp where to go with this. The language can do a heck of a lot of things, and if you've been reading this site for the past year, you'll know that I've been having a whale of a time with it. View on YouTube There are two editions available in the eShop. One with, and the other without a "Server Ticket". The server ticket gives you full access to the download server. You can freely download any of the games uploaded. Without a ticket, you'll still be able to download other people's games, but only one game every so often (I think it's one every 12 hours, but don't quote me on that) You'll also gain 10 Upload slots with each server ticket. Upload your games, give them a Public Key, and then let us know what wonderful things you've created. You can remove, update and reuse the slots as you'd like, so for most people that initial 10 slots will probably be more than enough, but the extra slots are nice and cheap, should you wish to increase the number. Think of it like buying extra floppy disks! IMO, you should probably buy the version bundled with a Server Ticket. That way, it'll give you full download access, from which you can grab as many of the online games as you can, and enjoy the joys that the community has so far created. Otherwise, with the time limit between downloads, you'll end up having to wait about 2 weeks just to download all of my games, never mind everyone else's!! If you want a full list of my game keys, you can find them here, and that page will be constantly updated every time I add more. I really hope you enjoy playing with SmileBASIC 4. Top Tip : Plug in a USB Keyboard. You can use a mouse, too, but I've managed without, so far. And do be sure to let me know if you create anything. Views 146, Upvotes 15
