A nice slow paced shooter this week. Poor old CPC Basic couldn't really handle bullet-hell type games. Well, ok, maybe it could if you really really tried, and came up with a scrolling ascii grid of bullets, but for the most part it just wasn't happening. Instead, Cassette 50 creators had to rely on other ideas. Like trying to kill you with your own desire to kill!! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Inferno_20110125_Logo_thumb.png">

54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Anyhoo, this is a nice big lengthy re...

They sent me my iPhing Dev License, and I spent the day playing about with that, and installing everything again... Nothing productive, just a wasted day. Today is marginally better..

You could say that this week's been a bit of a cheat. An update isn't REALLY a whole new game. But then, I also made <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/?p=656">ScoreRack</a>, this week, too.. So it all evens out! Good stuff!

A classic Blockman game, in the style he was meant to be in! Sure, he looks great doing his whole "Pacman maze, but hungry" thing, but this is the style he made his name in, so it seems only fitting that this would be where he finds his Mario Costume. And not just once. He can find it over and over again! <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Blockman_in_a_Mario_Costume_20100330A.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Blockman_in_a_Mario_Costume_20100330A_thumb.png"></a>

I've been meaning to start mentioning McCoy's AGameAWeek games for a few weeks, now, but am usually too busy on a Wednesday to think about it. D'oh!! No matter... Today I'm at work, and have incredibly managed to remember, so here's this weeks. (URL "https://nmccoy.net/2010/03/10/game-07-avoid-spikes/">Avoid Spikes) is one of those "uhoh!" games that regulars here will be all too familiar with. They usually occur when you've spent too long on a project, and would rather it wasn't rushed, so you ...

Blimey, Blockman got big! 5Mb!! FIVE!! That's not like me! But with over 350 great big (for me!) 64x64 pixel sprites, the game was bound to get a little bit bigger than usual. Oh, and a bitmap font, too! I've really gone all out, this week! <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Blockman_Gets_More_20091103B.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Blockman_Gets_More_20091103B_thumb.png"></a> To be fair, it's taken about 2 weeks to get this all done, but I ...

Friday 25th of September 2009 12:15:21 AM Name : Thunderskull 4024 Idea : Sokoban-like game with hex-based grid. OK, first off, not really sure what all the loving of Hexagons is about, but the word Hex is in the suggestion bag about 20-odd times! People appear to really like Hexagons! The Hexagonal Maze is in the archive. It's a half assed game, but I like it. Sokoban kinda needs specific controls, since you have to be able to move ...

This week's Wednesday Workshop suggests we should make a Pacman game. I've already done "Blockman Forever" this year, so I'm going to avoid retreading old ground. Instead I'm going the Puzzle route. Already I've got a lovely little set of graphics going, and am obviously reusing Blockman because.. .. well, why not!!! A few mazes are set up, ready to go, as well as the first of the neat little puzzle mechanics... I'm now trying to come up with a nice batch of extra puzzle e...

Many many years ago (about 20?!) I played a game called Painter on a mate's BBC Micro. Haven't played the thing since, but what the hey, here's the "Done in a day" remake! I had intended to do a bigger project, and in fact that project is nearly done, but the lack of time made me postpone the larger project for a week, while it all gets done. So, quicky game this week. <a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/Painter.png"><img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/Painter_thumb.png"&...

I'd rather play Pong against Tetris (untahris), than th1s th1ngy Now, I don't mind complaints, but there's two things wrong with that complaint. 1. But... Centipong kicks ass!!!! 2. Pong vs Tetris? First things first, here's this week's AGameAWeek game. I've done a few dozen "Get the Greens" before, so I figured I'd keep this one short. Simply put, get the greens, and avoid the holes. No enemy this time, just you and the floor, so if you're nice and gentle you could probably get quite far through and score a decent score. As it stands, my highscore is currently 15 points. .. So, not a super-high-scoring game, but definitely one you could beat me at! Since I've made...

I made a start on this game a few days ago, and things seem to be progressing at a decent enough rate. The basic gameplay engine is in there, now. The test level (200x50 blocks) loads, platdude can run around, grab onto bars, jump around and use ladders. He can also work plungers and have the blocks open and shut accordingly. So, that's all nice! You might notice that the graphics are looking remarkably similar to JNKPlatDS08. That's because they ARE those graphics! The engine loads t...

This week's Wednesday Workshop (#200! wowie) asked us to create a game using no more than 2000 characters. I managed to recreate the classic 8-bit title "Splat!", whereby you control a spider through a maze, picking up fruit. In order to squeeze all that into 2000 characters, I opted for simpler mouse movement, and few other bits and pieces. Then I figured, what the heck, and decided to make it a wee bit bigger for AGameAWeek. Guide the worm through the maze, grab the circles, avoid the squares, a...

I had intended to update this a fair bit. Add music, add extra pickups, things like that. But in the end, I instead decided to leave it as it is. This is (with added Highscore table) pretty much as it is at the end of the two hour session. A nice simple game, with a basic gameplay method. Guide the "worm" through the maze, grab all the blue + blobs, and avoid the barrels. They're very very volatile, so.. best to keep clear of 'em all.. (Although, you do get points for blowing them up....

I'm yet to start coding anything gamewise, yet, but I've made my first start on the first game. Gerinych over at GBATemp suggested a Sokoban clone. Usually, I avoid Sokobans. They're kinda dull, generic and boring after 5 seconds, but there's something in Sokoban that's really useful right now. Sokoban has a LOT of levels, and since one of the Socoder members (JL235) is making his own Sokoban clone, he knew where I'd find a whole big bunch of levels for it. So, in rapid succ...

A nice and simple game, this week. <img src="https://agameaweek.com/completeB/2009/Storm_of_Idigidragon_20090224A.png"> Since I'm trying to decide what style Platdude Retro Collection 2 should have, I decided to try out a style in Blitz first, and see how it looks. You might notice it's still a little Atari 2600. .. I'm not sure if I'll stick with that. But I do like the nice big chunky sprites, and the whole thing feels much more retro than PRC did, originally.. So.. I dunno...
