Score My Words
Game
10th March 2018
Note : Not a Game
This is a tool to aid in the playing of Real World Scrabble. You can use this to add up word values, keep track of scores, and it even has minimal word checking integrated, too. This tool works great when run on a board-side tablet device. You might also like to use HDMI/AirPlay/ChromeCast to stream the gameplay to your TV, at which point you can then stream it online, if you're that sort of player. Views 606, Upvotes 65

This is coming along rather well.
The scores are now all totting up, and everything's working to a moderately decent standard.
The game/tool's not very good at noticing gaps in word placements, so you could put down "Happy Cat" and it wouldn't notice the space.
That needs fixed.
But if you're playing along with a real-world board game, as is the intention with this, you can probably work around that slight flaw!!

Not sure where I'll be plonking this week's game, but I expect a quick
upload to the server in HTML5 format will probably suffice.
The basic layout is working, tile placement seems ok. There's a Cancel word button and a Enter Word button.
There's also undo functionality, which will be helpful when you accidentally hit the Enter Word button!! (Something that was incredibly frustrating in my previous attempt at this sort of thing.)
Next I need to go through all the different tile/wor...

Learning "Online"
Blog
4th March 2018
Today during testing, I hit a rather nasty issue with the framework.
When coding the Online Scoreboard component, I added a 5 second timeout to the code.
Unfortunately, as well as that works "in theory", the timeout is completely ignored during the "connect" part of the script.

In order to cut off previous edition's scoreboards, I opted to change the game from #552, to #553.
Unfortunately, this has resulted in the random number generator changing, and all the levels are now completely different!!
Currently playing through all the levels again, to be sure they're all working.
Release, maybe tonight? Maybe earlier.. No idea!

A bit late in the day to realise you'd only coded half the blinkin' online scoreboard stuff!!
True, the Framework was happy to send the score data to the server, but ... Then what!?
I'd not coded ANYTHING about receiving the data back, parsing the data, popping the scores and player names into internal memory, and then displaying the online scores to the player.
D'oh!
So, that's what I've been working on all day, today.
As a result, the game might be del...

The unlocks work, the extra characters are in, and everything's golden!
Once everything's up and running, you'll be able to play through and unlock everything as you go.
Hurray!!

Finally got the Bonus Eggs working the way they should.
You can now collect them, flap around with them, and earn extra points by having them with you.
Next up is adding Flame Bars back into the mix, to make the levels a little more difficult to navigate around.
This time I'm hoping to make the levels a little more manageable, as the previous game occasionally spawned things in insanely implausible positions!!!
But, yeah, things oughta be ok with this scoring mechanic.
The scores I...

Lazily Viewing

20th January 2018
I spent most of the night, switched off from coding, and instead watched a lot of YouTube stuff.
Lots of complaining about YouTube's stupid new Ad-Revenue rules, meaning hundreds and thousands of vloggers are being hit hard.
In addition, @Geekanoids is having a terrible time after a burst pipe caused oodles of damage to his Studio.
In many ways, YouTube isn't the greatness it used to be, but annoyingly they've pretty much destroyed any and all competition, so people are stuck with it.

The scoreboard flips between Top 5 and Last 5, and once I add them in, will also show the Online Top 5, too.
All in one neater space on the right, leaving the left hand side relatively uncluttered.
