Merry Christmas!! .... What do you mean, too early!? Well, ok, maybe it is.. In fact, as of right now, it's exactly one entire month early! But let's not let that get in the way. Introducing "Alpha Collexion" (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/GameJolt-Header_1.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/GameJolt-Header_1-300x78.png" alt="GameJolt-Header_1" width="300" height="78" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4159" />Views 104, Upvotes 21

Each year, time dependent, I like to do something special over Xmas, and this year I've opted to start early. If I want a whole Xmas Collection ready on the OUYA (And possibly iOS Store) in time, I need to get onto it quickly enough to have it finished, uploaded, and passed through review, in time for Xmas. And, if it's an Advent Calendar, then it needs to be ready even earlier, for Dec 1st. Yikes!! I started the planning stages of this thing a couple of months ago, when I asked folk on both Socoder a...

You may have noticed a slight lack of gaming over the past couple of months. Usually I cut down on AGameAWeek during the closing months of a year, and instead focus on a larger project, but over the course of this year I've already tackled a number of larger projects. Blockman Worlds, JNK Bombers, Future Classics.. They've all been substantially larger than my standard weekly output. As such, I'm actually struggling to come up with a decent "end of year project" that would be worth tackling. Instead, I...

What would happen if someone in the past was given a list of modern day videogame titles? What kind of games would they imagine from far off in their future? And what sort of games would they create, on their retro-tastic 8-bit home computers!? It's time, once again, to step inside the Future Classics Time Vortex, and find out!! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edition_20140408A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edit...

This week I've decided to resurrect the classic "(URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/GameList.php?ShowJust=108">Future Classics)". In the spirit of the original, this collection will be made up of short minigames, each one taking the title from a current-gen game, but being created in the spirit of an 8-bit "rubbish" game. It's been one heck of a challenge to get the game up and running in such a short amount of time, so the initial release will be OUYA/Windows/HTML5 just like Boxsplodings, relying entirely o...

.. Sorry, I haven't suddenly added them. Instead, I've made this post in the hopes of starting a discussion on the feasibility of adding scoreboards to future AGameAWeek titles. It's something I've attempted in the past, and old versions of Microbes, Spider and others still kind-of, mostly, sort of work. But there's a few issues that are stopping me from integrating it into the current framework.

There are hundreds of great sites that I should probably link to, and much like linking to my hundreds of games, I've always found it a bit of a mess once I start trying to cram it all into a small sidebar on the right of the site. Or, as the titlescreen would have you call it, "Greenie's Little Adventure" Feel free to use either of the two titles! Welcome back! AGameAWeek starts anew, this week, with a nice little remake of a game I made a good 7 or 8 years ago. My original "The Quest" game took a board-game-style approach, but never really got very far due to the limits and oddities of trying to play a board game on a computer. It felt strange to have to roll dice all the time, and the battles were never that great. I'm not ...

I'm knee deep in the middle of a mega-coding frenzy!! Over the past week or so, I've overhauled quite a few features of my framework, including getting things prepared for OUYA, with controller additions and things like that. My first experience

Me and Spinal were discussing OUYA. He'd just bought one, and was trying to get Monkey to work with it. I dared to mention OUYA in a tweet, and so was instantly followed by OUYAForum's tweetbot, @OUYAForum_com "Nnngh. A generic bloody tweetbot. Can't these companies behave properly?" I thought, and I otherwise ignored it and carried on. A few days later, another minor mention of OUYA on Twitter sparked a second following by OUYAForum's tweetbot. "Hmmm.. Didn't they ...

During most of October I've been building up a lovely little "Compendium". The idea was to make a collection of 25 little games, and pop it up as a sort of Advent Calendar type thing, but without it being thematically Christmassy, so that you could happily enjoy it at any time of the year. It's been about 2 or 3 weeks since I started the project. I got a lovely menu system working, and managed to fit all the usual scoreboard/icon/etc elements in. Then I started making games. .. and that's when the ...

Late last night, NeonPlat Raw appeared on the OUYA Dashboard for the very first time. People keep asking about how I manage to code AGameAWeek, and one thing they all eventually pick up on is that I'm currently doing it all with Monkey. (URL "https://monkeycoder.co.nz">Monkey) is a fantastic language which allows for all manner of different targets, and does a great job doing what it does. It isn't perfect, and it's not for everyone, but it suits me down to the ground. As with any development tool, it all comes down to preference, and whether or not you agree with the methodology o...

What's with the track?

BlastTrax was originally devised as a classic Retro-styled GrandPrix-like racing game, with weapons. You would drive through the course, shoot the other drivers, and make your way through to the end.
