Merry Christmas!! .... What do you mean, too early!? Well, ok, maybe it is.. In fact, as of right now, it's exactly one entire month early! But let's not let that get in the way. Introducing "Alpha Collexion" (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/GameJolt-Header_1.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/GameJolt-Header_1-300x78.png" alt="GameJolt-Header_1" width="300" height="78" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4159" />Views 104, Upvotes 21

Ok, so, I need a new archive. It's been a good number of years since I originally created the Jayenkai Archive, and although the software's lasted through a fair number of rethemes, and a fair number of enhancements over the years, it all still pretty much has the exact same issues that it did on day one.

During these later months of the year, whilst I'm busying away with my Advent calendar collection, there's going to be a slight delay in the usual AGameAWeek pace of things. Rest assured, I'm still coding, and there will be a nice end-result, hopefully!! In the meantime, enjoy this lovely picture. <br /><br />(URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IMG_6669.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IMG_6669.png" alt="IMG_6669.PNG" class="alignn...

Each year, time dependent, I like to do something special over Xmas, and this year I've opted to start early. If I want a whole Xmas Collection ready on the OUYA (And possibly iOS Store) in time, I need to get onto it quickly enough to have it finished, uploaded, and passed through review, in time for Xmas. And, if it's an Advent Calendar, then it needs to be ready even earlier, for Dec 1st. Yikes!! I started the planning stages of this thing a couple of months ago, when I asked folk on both Socoder a...

Today is, apparently, Amiga Day. Not entirely sure what it is we're supposed to do on Amiga Day, but I figured it'd be nice to compile one of my old AMOS games, and stick it onto my Archive for all to laugh at! I've actually dated this one in the code, as being from 1997!! No idea when in 1997, so I'll say it's probably December... but yeay! Oldest thing on my Archive o/ <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/JNK_Slalom_19971225A_thumb.png"> <im...

I've just added my first Amiga game to my Jayenkai Archive. I've had access to the disk's files for a long time, but never got around to getting the compiler stuff up and running. Today, I finally buggered about with WinUAE and my collection of Amos disks, and got Amos Pro Compiler up and running. As much as I count myself as "a bit of a Trekkie", I've never considered myself a full-on Trekkie. Sure, I enjoy watching it, and I do manage to follow 95% of the twisting turning sprawling plotlines, and enjoy the mythology of the show. I even recently subscribed to the Star Trek Starships model collection, which, every single fortnight, brings a lovely little starship to my door. (Well, ok, technically they get delivered in pairs, monthly!! I'm really enjoying these little ships, and my shelf is alrea...

What would happen if someone in the past was given a list of modern day videogame titles? What kind of games would they imagine from far off in their future? And what sort of games would they create, on their retro-tastic 8-bit home computers!? It's time, once again, to step inside the Future Classics Time Vortex, and find out!! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edition_20140408A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edit...

Release
5th April 2014
This week I've decided to resurrect the classic "(URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/GameList.php?ShowJust=108">Future Classics)". In the spirit of the original, this collection will be made up of short minigames, each one taking the title from a current-gen game, but being created in the spirit of an 8-bit "rubbish" game. It's been one heck of a challenge to get the game up and running in such a short amount of time, so the initial release will be OUYA/Windows/HTML5 just like Boxsplodings, relying entirely o...

I woke up late, this morning, and felt somewhat lethargic. I tried doing a bit of coding, but nothing seemed to fall into place, and I couldn't really be bothered to tackle anything. I closed the laptop before dinner, and opted to give up on the day. Here's what happened on my day off..

When I first bought my iPad, I never imagined the amount of "work" that I'd end up doing on the thing. The fact is, it's SO much easier to have your iPad on hand, than it is a giant laptop. That's not to say I don't use my laptop. It's pretty much an essential part of AGameAWeek. You can't exactly do your coding on iOS, so the laptop is there for the majority of the things I do, but over the course of the last year-or-so, I've found myself doing smaller bit-tasks on my iPad. I figured I should probab...

There are hundreds of great sites that I should probably link to, and much like linking to my hundreds of games, I've always found it a bit of a mess once I start trying to cram it all into a small sidebar on the right of the site. As such, I've finally opted to create one great big link-page, full of everything I could think of within the short hour or so that it took to add it! If you're missing from this page, let me know!! <table border="1px" cellpadding="2" width="100%"> <t...

18th December 2013
Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013 No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention! Sucks!! So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list. And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant. That'll show 'em!! Mwa-ha-haaa!!!

Last March I was taken into hospital with a brain tumor. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/2012/08/home-again-home-again-jiggity-jig/">There's a lengthy blog about that, here.) Since then, although I'm "mentally" fine, I'm all sorts of physically screwed up! I can barely stand in one spot without wobbling about, and trying to have a short stroll outside is somewhat chaotic. In general I tend to stumble around, and can barely look around me, so have to always have someone with me incase I randomly wand...

Neovember is a month in which I'm taking the engine from NeonPlat Raw, and playing about with it to create a bunch of different gameplay styles. Once we're done, I'll bundle everything back into a package, and pop it up on all the different systems. This week's experimental gameplay mode comes courtesy of Blockman. Not the hungry-pellet-eating version of Blockman, the classic platforming/collection form. You start the game as you normally would, with you, some balls, and some bad guys. There's also a...

During most of October I've been building up a lovely little "Compendium". The idea was to make a collection of 25 little games, and pop it up as a sort of Advent Calendar type thing, but without it being thematically Christmassy, so that you could happily enjoy it at any time of the year. It's been about 2 or 3 weeks since I started the project. I got a lovely menu system working, and managed to fit all the usual scoreboard/icon/etc elements in. Then I started making games. .. and that's when the ...

I can't exactly say I've been enjoying the time off.. To be honest, 95% of September was spent working on the big BlastTrax update, and so far most of October has been similarly working on Sheep Goes Right. It's actually a heck of a lot of stuff to cram into such a short amount of time, and it's been so much effort that I've been neglecting AGameAWeek. But.. You know.. They're both nice big games, and they're both sort of worth the effort. Or at least, I think so, anyway! Meanwhile I've gone and boug...

September is nearly over, and I've played a good six or seven hours of GTAV. Hmm.. Anyhoo, I've been working away at BlastTrax and have done quite a fair amount of work on the thing. I should be uploading the new edition to Apple in the next couple of days, (I have to faff about updating my MacMini first, though) so watch out for that appearing on your iPhing in the next week or so. After that it's time to get back into the AGameAWeek swing of things, and I'm tempted to do another slightly larger pr...

300? Blog
15th August 2013
Coming up is a game that I've been building up over the past week or so. On August 27th, I'll be releasing the wonderful game BlastTrax. The game started well enough, but soon spiraled out of control as I realised it was much better than the quick experiment that it started life as. Rather timely, too, as it means I can release it as #300. But, what exactly IS #300? Hmmm...

Not Good Advice

The following is not advice, and should not be taken as such. People often ask me how I manage to do AGameAWeek. Particularly, how I manage to cram everything into a single week, and then somehow manage to do exactly the same thing every other week, without going crazy. What follows might possibly help you understand a little more of what goes on in the world of AGameAWeek. Or it might just be a whole bunch of rambling waffling text. Not sure!! ...

It's like playing around with a time machine, but without the risk of destroying the entire universe, simply because you happened to sneeze near a butterfly, or something! Today, we find two great classics.
