My mum had a couple of games of Cardagain, today!
That's how far along it's come!!
In less than a week, I've not only finally managed to get a grip on the language, I'm actually making a pretty damn good game, too!
In the next couple of days, there's still a few bits and pieces to work on.
1. The menu is really really barebones at the minute, showing 4 items, but only having one clickable one.. (New Game!)
2. The loading screen could do with being switched for an AGameAWeek th...

An early caffeine fuelled start has lead to a nice NeonPlat trailer, which actually took about two hours... But who's counting!?
I didn't keep a track of how/when I pieced this together, mostly because I kinda just jumped into it this morning, but it went a little like ...

Uhoh, the ratio's dropping!
No matter, this week's been SUPER busy, what with it being the week I finally got a Mac.
As seen the other day, I re-released 8 of my games for Mac. It's not just Steam on Mac!!! You can play UFO246, too!
Today sees a couple of extra bonuses.

I've been trying to keep things juggling around for a while now. Hopping between Socoder work, little bits of music, youtube vids, and then the biggies.. the AGameAWeek's, and the weekly Socoder Newsletter.
There's a heck of a lot to do.
Recently I've also thrown 2WarioGamesAWeek into the pile, and I'm now keeping JNKPlat2010 up in the air, too.
OMG! It's getting mental!!!
To even consider adding to JNKPlatDS08, with some of the more recent blocks, would be a very very silly idea.
It'd be even wor...

We're not done yet!
In order to further our quest to redo DS08 in Bigginess, we've also got to redraw all of SirVoe's wonderful alternative graphics that he designed for DS08.
There's 3 extra sets of sprites, and it's taken me about 2 hours to redraw about 1/4 of the first sheet.
Uhoh!!
Rush time!!

It's scary to even consider this, but there's no free-forming games for a while.

Late last night, as I was half-asleep and reading through Twitter, @Komiga asked me if I was going to be using any version tracking software for my lovely framework.
My twittered response was limited (by lack of sleep, and also 140 chrs!!), so I figured I should explain it a little better.
Last year, around about Alien Deathmatch/Centipong time, I built up my 2D-in-3D framework to work in Blitz3D.
It worked wonders, and let me achieve a whole new abi...

Absolute chaos at the house of Jay, this week.
First up, good news, that new PC I ordered MONTHS AGO (October 19th) has finally turned up.. *sigh*
Annoyingly Windows 7 - 64bit refuses to work with either of the two USB->Ethernet connectors that I own, which basically means my entire network is now in a total mess.
The new PC is lovely, and will do many things nicely, except that I can't access ANY of my stuff from the other PC.
No coding templates, no music, no sound, not even a Platdude anywhere...

I made a start on this game a few days ago, and things seem to be progressing at a decent enough rate.
The basic gameplay engine is in there, now. The test level (200x50 blocks) loads, platdude can run around, grab onto bars, jump around and use ladders. He can also work plungers and have the blocks open and shut accordingly.
So, that's all nice!
You might notice that the graphics are looking remarkably similar to JNKPlatDS08. That's because they ARE those graphics!

Splat 2000
Blog
12th May 2009
This week's Wednesday Workshop (#200! wowie) asked us to create a game using no more than 2000 characters.
I managed to recreate the classic 8-bit title "Splat!", whereby you control a spider through a maze, picking up fruit.
In order to squeeze all that into 2000 characters, I opted for simpler mouse movement, and few other bits and pieces.
Then I figured, what the heck, and decided to make it a wee bit bigger for AGameAWeek.
Guide the worm through the maze, grab the circles, avoid the squares, a...

22nd March 2009
With more tweaking than my head could stand, I finally got Game #2 wrapped up yesterday, so I'm finally starting on Game #3, today.
As stated previously, Game #3 will be reusing quite a lot of the core engine that Game #2 used, so it should be short and sweet putting it all together, like some kind of coded jigsaw puzzle.
Once that's done, Game #4's ready to get going (ie, I have a vague idea in my head!) and will also be coded in Blitz for this week's AGameAWeek, so watch out for that.....

I write a game a week.. Sometimes they're good, sometimes their rubbish, and sometimes they're really fun, playable, and can keep you playing for a good few hours.
I can do this, because I have a lot of free time. And by "a lot of free time", I mean A LOT of free time.
The webhost is pretty much minimal cost (GoDaddy), the programming languages range from 0 cost (DS/XNA) to very mi...

I'm not sure if you figured it out from the picture I posted the other day, but it seems that the project I'm currently working on in XNA will turn out to be Centipong.
To be honest, I wasn't actually planning to do Centipong!
I was actually just shoving in a basic sprite, and getting it bobbing around on the screen, in order to duplicate my basic "Blitz 2D-in-3D" command set within the XNA environment.
So far that's working out rather well, and I've near enough created a nice littl...

While I was playing Ultima Online a lot, I decided to do a silly Ultima based comic. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it took ages to cut out and manage each of the panels of a comic, in order to make the pages look good.
As I always say, "A simple idea can always be made easier if you use Blitz to do all the boring work for you." It's a long saying, but it fits.
Hyper Llama Man lasted for 6 pages.. Not a long time, but at least I managed to pull myself away from Ultima!

That's why I set up the Wednesday Workshop.
A weekly challenge. Make a game based upon a given theme, or task. Everyone who enters gets put through for a vote. But it's not really about the winning. It's about having something to do when you're bored. And .. I get bored a lot!

Platdude. A 16 pixel, 3 color character. Deftly defying the world of 3D models and amazing realism, in favour of good old fashioned gameplay.
Over the years, Platdude has been in plenty of games.. Here's an approximate history of Platdude, along with Downloads where appropriate. (Or skip to the bottom for the latest stuff!)
