This week's game has been started, but progress is slow. There's no particular reason for this, just that my mind doesn't seem to be in a game making mood. Instead, I've been playing Mario Kart 8 and Tomodachi Life, as well as faffing about with various website tweaks, and doing other none-productive things. I guess my mind must need a rest or something, as I seem to be taking a lot of breaks lately. *shrugs* Hopefully, I'll be back in action by next week. See you then!

I woke up late, this morning, and felt somewhat lethargic. I tried doing a bit of coding, but nothing seemed to fall into place, and I couldn't really be bothered to tackle anything. I closed the laptop before dinner, and opted to give up on the day. Here's what happened on my day off..

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_128.png" style="float:right;"> AGameAWeek Gold is a daily trip through the Jayenkai Archive, to see if I've previously released any games on this day in history. Sometimes the day is uneventful. Not even I have managed enough to pad out every single day of the year! Oddly, though, other days contain more than one game. And today's one of those days!

For the next few days, until April 16th 2013, Sheep Goes Left will be half-price, over at the <a href="https://bit.ly/SheepGoesLeft">iOS AppStore</a>. To celebrate this random decision, here's...

A Brief'ish History of Sheep Goes Left

After SpikeDislike was released, one of the AppStore reviewers complained that there's no way to save your progress, and that the infinitely continuing level was an issue because there are no checkpoints, and no ending. .. Well, yeah...

There's not always a game to play, but occasionally we'll stumble upon long forgotten gems. Today's is especially nice!

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_256.png" style="float:right;">Whoops! A little late, today. Sorry about that, folks! Yesterday, SpikeDislike2 was FREE in the AppStore. I might've actually forgotten to post about that, here. um.. sorry!! If any of my regulars missed it, lemmie know. Anyway, with all the SD2 stuff, I've spent quite a lot of time this morning analyzing stats, and graphs, and reviews, and everything else. I was so busy, in fact, that I forgot about AGameAWeek Gold! Whoop...

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_256.png" style="float:right"> Aaah, March 2010. The month of MAR10! I decided to dedicate the entire month to Mario, and spent the whole month remaking classic AGameAWeek games, but with Mario costumes on all the characters! I remember it like it was yesterday. Except it wasn't yesterday. ... It was three entire smegging years ago!! ARGH!!!!

As the Mario game flies over the head of the internet, Jay takes note. 2 days after posting to TIGsource, the first comment went online last night. "I'm an art guy, so when I see Goombas with holes in their heads instead of shadows, or tiles that have sharp ends, I'm not inclined to give something a try. Maybe someone else will, but my art instinct is telling me to wait for something that recognizes its visuals Have you had any luck with this elsewhere? The genre doesn't immediately grab me, but a g...

Not sure why, but I'm finding it difficult to get a start on things, this morning. Yesterday I managed to get a whole lot of stuff done, ranging from webby fixes, through to making a unicycle. Today, I'm loading up bits of source, staring at it, closing it, trying something else.. I've been doing this for about 49 minutes, according to my playlist's timer! I think I'll grab the 3DS and carry on attempting random Mario levels. Hopefully that'll go a little better. Coming Tuesday : A game with a u...

Thankyou Santa!! My issue with Super Mario 3D Land isn't the fact that it's in 3D. My issue is with the fact that the gameplay's in 3D. See, to me, SuperMarioLand was always a stripped down barebones edition of what made Super Mario Brothers great. As you played through SuperMarioLand, you noticed all the shortcuts they took, like how the levels seemed to be on a bit of a loop, repeating in a strange fashion. The whole game was fashioned to ...

When I was building the beta versions of NeonPlat Adventures, it always included a little readme file. The final release didn't have one, but I figured that was ok, because it was so simple it didn't really need one. The original readme was only really there to explain that beta peeps shouldn't mention the Calendar, and then I kinda rambled on a bit! Anyhoo, if you find yourself in desperate need of a readme file, this is it!

Saturday's my "At work for a while" day, so I usually get a lot less codey time done, but I still managed quite a few bits and pieces in the morning. A couple of new baddies, and a teensy bit of AI are in there, as is something which may or may not be confusing, depending on whether you remember the 7 year old oddity or not. Suffice to say, the bananas do definitely appear to be coming from below the arrow. .. not sure what that's all about.. ---

Today I've been continuing to fiddle about with all the framework's drawing methods. The engine seems rather fickle, and will sometimes do a bunch of big sprites, and other times do a buttload of tiny ones. I've currently got the settings to a nice middleground. It can handle quite a bit, so long as you don't give it mountains of giant sprites to contend with!! <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/photo-1.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/u...

Another day pondering about the should/shouldn't monkey issue. Another day wondering if I shouldn't just be writing a game.. I should be focusing on the important bits, but instead, my minds contemplating what could be. We're in March. Last March, I was using my brand new framework, creating lovely big character sprites, and making fancy colourful Mario styled games. This week, monochrome Asteroids. Hmmmm... So, perhaps the color thing isn't actually that big of a deal, then...

The year is new, but the logo's old. Sod it. I love this logo! I should be doing a year-long roundup thing, but I've not had much time, what with the whole Advent and stuff. No matter, there's been some good, and plenty of bad, and that's what AGameAWeek's all about!

54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Anyhoo, this is a nice big lengthy re...
