DevelopmentsUhoh! Forgot about colours!!! That's going to make NeonPlat Adventures particularly tricky, should I want to include an HTML5 edition. .. and, of course, I DO want to include an HTML5 edition, so I guess I'm going to have to retackle the whole "multicoloured scenery" issue. And so I spent most of yesterday drawing some basic template scenery and getting it all ready. I added a whole new section to my re-renderer engine, and now it's spitting out high quality assets in 9 differ...Views 29, Upvotes 11

DevelopmentsI think we can now safely say that SpikeDislike3's been a bit of a wet duck. I expected more from it, and I really did enjoy making it, but .. Meh, whatever.. It's hard to get noticed in this great big crazy world of ours. I'd expect myself to be a little more disappointed by this scenario, but oddly I instead find myself thinking "OK, Now What!?" I guess that doing AGameAWeek for so long has taught me that, whenever something doesn't work, there's still something else around the...Views 16, Upvotes 5

Melodical DevelopmentsLast night I re-rendered and uploaded the entire (URL "https://archive.org/details/PrecariousAlBum">Precarious Al Bum to Archive.org) Annoyingly, I forgot to trim the tails on the tracks, so they all end with about a half-a-second of silence. Ooops.. I'll have to poke around in Archive.org's settings and see if I can update the files, but I imagine they're probably going to have to stay like that. Aw well.. Meanwhile, I also created a new track for the Liquid A...Views 18, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsI could've sworn I did SOMETHING, yesterday! ..but can I remember what? I should probably jot these things down, as I go! I know I had SpikeDislike3's source open for a bit, but then I also had BlastTrax's source open, too. If I want to update BlastTrax, I first need to upgrade it's framework, and then add some music. hmmm. Then I messed about with Arcade Slots. I do enjoy Arcade Slots, but other people still hate the "randomness" of it all. Weird.. So, yeah, I actual...Views 19, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsYesterday was spent fixing up little things in SpikeDislike3. I got Predetermined Layouts working, but still haven't bothered to implement any sort of collision detection! Still, you can now start a round, have it spawn the spikes in the same place, and then exit back to the menu. Having the spikes show up in the same place, is of course super important in SpikeDislike, as you learn the layouts of the level, and try not to die for ages and ages. I'll have to add a couple of ra...Views 15, Upvotes 6

New Archive?

Ok, so, I need a new archive.
It's been a good number of years since I originally created the Jayenkai Archive, and although the software's lasted through a fair number of rethemes, and a fair number of enhancements over the years, it all still pretty much has the exact same issues that it did on day one.

As I sit here trying to code this week's AGameAWeek, I'm struggling.
Not because I don't know what the game's supposed to be. I actually have most of the game planned out in my head, and I think it might be fun, but something else is butting in.
For some strange reason, I can't stop thinking about NeonPlat Adventures.
I'd like to make "Greenie's Communication Tower", but each time I open the code, I instead find myself thinking about the complexities of Platform World Generation, and how much fun I fo...

NeonPlat Extreme appears to be following the same path as BlastTrax, and gaining a nice bit of attention.
Knowing my luck, this will probably result in an equally similar amount of sales. ie, bog all!!

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013
No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention!
Sucks!!
So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list.
And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant.
That'll show 'em!!

NeonPlat Extreme sees most of the elements of the NeonPlat series of games, all cobbled together into one great big lump sum.
There's lots of fun little things to play around with, and for the most part it's the same single-screen platforming action you've come to expect.

Release
6th December 2013
The Windows edition of NeonPlat Extreme has just been updated, and hopefully everything works properly, this time.
Gamepad support should work properly.. Although it's still refusing to work on my laptop, it is at least working for other testers, so .. um.. I'll just assume it's working fine!!
Music's in.. Was it in, last time? I can't remember!
There's also a few other nips and tucks, and other little tweaks, to help keep the game running smoothly.

The OUYA edition of our great big Neovember game is now available in the OUYA Sandbox.
You can grab it from the discovery doohickey. Simply search for "NeonPlat" and you'll find it.
The Windows edition will be updated at some point in the next few days, and I'll be hopefully submitting the iOS edition to Apple some time later today. There's still lots of little tweaks to do for the touchscreen controls, but otherwise it's all running nicely.
*phew* So much to do! Crazy times ahead!!

My first experienceMe and Spinal were discussing OUYA. He'd just bought one, and was trying to get Monkey to work with it. I dared to mention OUYA in a tweet, and so was instantly followed by OUYAForum's tweetbot, @OUYAForum_com "Nnngh. A generic bloody tweetbot. Can't these companies behave properly?" I thought, and I otherwise ignored it and carried on. A few days later, another minor mention of OUYA on Twitter sparked a second following by OUYAForum's tweetbot. "Hmmm.. Awww..

Today was supposed to be the great big release day, but annoyingly, one or two annoying issues have annoyingly cropped up.
<img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/NeonPlat_Extreme_20131126B.png">
First and foremost.. and quite bizarrely.. My Monkey games no longer appear to be working with Gamepads!!
At first I thought I'd retweaked NeonPlat until my code no longer worked, but upon searching through my archive, it appears that they're all equally as broken.
Either it's my Laptop...

Nah, not quite.
But for a fair bulk of this year, I did manage to keep up the rate.
2013's not been too bad, considering..
Towards the end of January, I finished off my new Monkey Framework, and set about coding with that.
Since then, I continued to code games at a rate of one a week, up until the first stumbling block struck in April.
I initially intended to code a new word game, each week, and create a huge Stringy Things mega-game during April, but it all went to pot when the Image-Data-Loader did...

Neovember is a month in which I'm taking the engine from NeonPlat Raw, and playing about with it to create a bunch of different gameplay styles.
Once we're done, I'll bundle everything back into a package, and pop it up on all the different systems.
This week's experimental gameplay mode comes courtesy of Blockman. Not the hungry-pellet-eating version of Blockman, the classic platforming/collection form.
You start the game as you normally would, with you, some balls, and some bad guys.
There's also a...

Haze inquired as to why there's no NeonPlat Raw on iOS. The answer is simply because, a full year earlier, iOS got it's own special little NeonPlat.
In February 2012 (Just before my whole hospital saga!) I released NeonPlat on iOS. It featured tilt-controls, and 3 difficulty levels, and stands out as it's own special little version of the...

Welcome to Neovember, the month of NeonPlat, where I take the original NeonPlat Raw engine, and gradually upgrade it, adding new gameplay elements, features and modes.
By the end of Neovember, we'll have a lovely big Extreme version of NeonPlat, and we can all sit around and play it for days/weeks/months at a time!
In this first week, I've decided to tackle the task of bringing over the NeonPlat Adventures enemies, and popping them into the new gane.
So far I've managed the first 35 enemies, ranging ...
