I spent all day yesterday working on the SoCoder overhaul again. Honestly, I think the revamp looks pretty cool, so I got overexcited about finishing the whole thing off at that "AGameAWeek" pace that inevitably ends up with me leaving bits out.
But it got done, and that's the important bit!
I've left it with the forum members to decide if it's worthwhile, but using the basic version myself for the past couple of days has been really quite eye-opening. Just how old SoCoder really looks, and with a few nips and tucks, how much better it could look.
Old
vs New
I mean, it's not "A Ton" of a difference, but it's less border'y, there's less clutter, and IMO it looks a lot neater.
But I'm not the judge. The forum members are. And I'll leave it there for a few days to see what they think of the overall usability.
I also have a few elements to put back in, like the "Like this post" button. I couldn't decide where and how to put the little yellow thumbs-up icon, so .. didn't!
Hmm.
..
In the meantime, then, I have a Typing Tutor to get back to!
"Cartoon @Derek plays his guitar on stage with his indie britpop band, during an outdoor music festival to an audience of thousands, night time, main stage, large performance" by ArtFlow.ai
[Dave is pacing back and forth, constantly checking his watch. Green is sitting on the couch, looking bemused, whilst waving away the myriad of wires that Dave's trailing around the room from his watch.]
Green: Dave, you've been at this for hours. What on earth did you order?
Dave: [excitedly] It's a surprise, Greenie! But trust me, it's going to be amazing.
Green: [sighing] It's not more circuit boards is it?
Dave: No, no, much better! It's going to revolutionise my whole apartment.
Green: [looks around at the cables flailing all over the room] I didn't think that was possible.
Dave: [grinning] Oh, Greenie, you have no idea. This is going to be even better than anything I've ever bought. EVER!
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's living room - Afternoon
[Dave is hunched over his computer, frantically refreshing the delivery tracking page. Green looks over his shoulder.]
Dave: [frustrated] It's been 3 stops away for an hour. How long is that stop?
Green: Maybe the driver stopped for a coffee break?
Dave: [gasps] Don't even joke about that! They're delivery people, not stopping and eating and getting a snack and then some biscuits and a coffee people.
Green: Even delivery people need to eat.
Dave: [refreshing the page] It's still not moved.
Green: Maybe you could grab your bike and chase after it?
Dave: But it's only there, look. [points at screen] It should be here, soon. There's only 3 stops!
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's apartment doorway - Late Evening
[A delivery woman is struggling with an enormous package. Dave and Green are trying to help her get it through the door.]
Delivery Woman: [panting] I've never seen a package this big for something so light.
Dave: [beaming] That's the beauty of it!
Green: [straining] Dave, what on earth did you order?
Dave: [laughing] Don't worry, Greenie. We just need the power of Zen to get it in..
[They finally manage to get the package inside]
Delivery Woman: [wiping her brow] Well, enjoy whatever that is. I need a drink after that.
Green: And a biscuit.
Dave: [excitedly] I've got just the thing! [Hands her a Coke from the fridge]
Green: [to the delivery woman] Run while you can.
[The delivery woman leaves, and Dave tears into the package]
Dave: Here we go! The moment of truth!
[Dave opens the box to reveal... a set of 4 Coke coasters]
Green: [staring in disbelief] All that... for coasters?
Dave: [grinning] Not just any coasters, Greenie. Coke coasters! Now I can enjoy as much Coke as you want, without leaving rings on the furniture!
Green: [facepalming] And this revolutionised the apartment, how?
Dave: No more rings!
Green: Of course.
Dave: [placing a Coke can on a coaster] Perfection!
