So... Guess I gotta post a Patreon First game, today.
-=-=-
This tower defence game has been kinda lacklustre.
I know it looks like it might be fun, but it really hasn't been. In fact, it's been quite the chore to find just the right balance that transforms the game from being "a game I'm working on" into "a game I have been playing for the past few hours"
..
And.. You know what. I think I found it!
It's 11:30pm as I'm writing this blog, and for the past 4 and a half hours, give or take, I've been pretty much just playing Neon Attack.
I mean, not 100% .. Maybe 90%, with the final 10% being those last minute tweaks to the balancing.
But.. A lot of playing.. An awful lot.
The game's playability finally emerged when I reduced the number of turrets you can have. No more than 10 turrets on the land at a time, and .. More importantly.. No "delete" button!
This means you really need to think about where you're placing them, and if you end up putting one somewhere silly, it's going to be a few rounds before you can fit another one in.
There's plenty of coins (Build Credits) to collect, and you can quite frequently forget and miss them, so that's a nice playability feature.
Yeah, I reckon it's pretty much balanced perfectly, if I'm honest. Though I might just be rubbish at the game. We'll see once it's finally released to the public.
So, today's task. Screenshots, youtube, that kind of thing, and then posting the game as a Patreon First.
Sorry, if you're not a Patreon, you'll have to wait until next week to play it.
But be glad that it's done.
It's time to move on to April.
Word/Theme/Phrase suggestions in the comments or the Discord, or I'll have to spin the wheel of insane randomness, and let that decide instead.

The game is a game.
It finally works.
Look at it now.
It's a playable game.
The colours are bright,
And the characters fun.
Grab a joypad and prepare,
To be playing the game. (Yeah)
[break]
[verse]
Play it in darkness,
Play it in light.
As the gameplay begins,
You can take up the fight.
With controller in hand,
Move your thumbs to compose,
A ballad of action,
When you're playing the game. (Yeah)
[bridge]
Beneath the screens of gameplay, lines of code will always function,
To keep you playing longer than you should. (keep on playing, yes, you should)
Controllers sending bits of binary to keep the player moving,
Will you beat the enemies this time. (Fight the battle, yes, you should)
[break]
[verse]
The levels await,
Your battle begins.
Every screen is unique,
Every game, every week.
The game holds a secret,
In all of the frames,
Begin your adventure,
As you master the game. (Yeah)
[verse]
Smash at the buttons,
Unlock the door.
Every jump, every dodge,
Like you've been there before.
With every conquest,
Your legend is told.
It speaks of your skills,
While you're playing the game. (Yeah)

Int. Dave's Kitchen - Afternoon
[Dave is mixing ingredients while Green watches, unimpressed]
Dave: Seven chillies out of two cakes!
Green: I'm literally standing here watching you make this, Dave.
Dave: Yeah, but knowing you, by tomorrow you won't remember.
Green: I'm going to remember you putting an entire bottle of Super Death Mega Sauce into that cake mix.
Dave: Not when I put the purple food colouring in!
Green: How does that help?
Dave: Purple makes everything taste like purple!
[Dave starts churning the mixture vigorously]
Dave: The rotation helps distribute the chillies!
Green: I can see you doing this, Dave. I'm watching you do this right now.
Dave: Trust me, by tomorrow morning you'll have forgotten all about it.
Green: Is this because I told everyone about your cornflake collection?
Dave: No! Well, maybe. But mainly it's tradition! It's April Fools day, tomorrow, and you're in for a shock.
[The toaster beeps accusingly]
Dave: Oh, don't you start! You helped with the purple ones yesterday!
Green: The toaster's right, Dave. This is a waste of perfectly good cake mix.
Dave: Not waste! Creation! Art! Revenge!
Green: I'm still standing right here.
Dave: Yeah, but tomorrow...
Green: If you say 'tomorrow' one more time...
Dave: Look! It's gone all sparkly!
Green: That's because you just added glitter.
Dave: Edible glitter!
Green: That's not edible glitter, Dave.
Dave: We'll see how edible it is, tomorrow!
[Green leaves as end credits roll]
