Blog - 🍌💥- 22 - Powering Up

Been a good week or so since I bought some power-strips on the Amazon. Maybe time to rearrange things properly..?

It was all kinds of haphazard when I originally plugged things in, but now I've had the time to do it properly, the results are all kinds of neater.
Though, it's a shame about where the second power strip was going to go.

The wall above the actual plug sockets is apparently full of all kinds of wires. The bungalow seems to have all power cables coming down from the loft, which is apparently not the way that every other bungalow on the street is done. Nearly all of them have the power coming up from below.
This adds to the assumption that this bungalow must've had a complete rewiring, and we're assuming it was around about the time that the Shower/Wet room was put in, because there's also a secondary fuse box, just for that room.

We can't say for sure, but .. Whatever.. That wall's a no-go for adding a power strip, just in case.

Instead, that particular power strip is unceremoniously plonked on the floor! It's could probably do with trailing the strip around the room, so I have plugs closer to my bed's side of the room, but as it stands, I instead have a giant 5metre USB-C cable that trails around, with my iPad on one side, the brick in the middle, and another lengthy wire going the other way to the desk, for the MacBook to plug into!
Bit crazy, but if Apple's dishing out power bricks with two USB-c charging ports, I'm gonna use 'em!

I've got two spare plug sockets remaining. And the NAS is unplugged. I'm not 100% sure it'll be reconnected. Maybe I'll eventually buy a few 1 or 2 terabyte external SSDs, and copy more of my archived music/movies/etc onto those. On those days, the NAS will have to be powered up, but as it stands I'm frankly just not making use of it, so there's no need to plug it in.

Meanwhile, the Switch, Monitor, Mac Mini and Printer are hooked up to the second power strip, over my desk, and that's neatly on the wall which is great. USB Speakers are also plugged in, and there's a few spare USB slots on both power strips that can be used for random things, as and when required.

Honestly, it's taken a while before I plucked up the courage to rewire the desk area. .. And it's not done. It's not neat. It's kinda gone crazy with background wires again, especially since I also added some speakers into the mix.

Still just madness of wires, really.
But it's better than it was.
