Socoder Newsletter; Panic Fixing!#251 - Friday 12th February, 2016 https://groups.google.com/group/socoder-newsletter Every Friday, Tweaking things before people notice they're broken. ; Hello WorldAn extremely busy week for me, as I decided to publish the new version of my massive game archive. The plan seemed sensible. I've "finished" the site, all I have to do is add in all the data!!! So I spent a lot of the week trying to find ways that I can gradually update the old archive, adding extra data and features as I go. Things ran smoothly, and all was good! .. This is usually my warning sign! -=-=- So, I hit publish, and I swapped out the old archive for the new one, at which point cracks started to appear. Games that were listed as the wrong system, games apparently coded in Monkey that were done before Monkey was a gleem in Mark's eye, games that had upside down screenshots (I haven't a blood clue why that one happened!) and games that had stupid oversized screenshots that broke the layout of the site. It all seemed to happen within about an hour of me publishing it as the live version. I obviously missed all these issues, beforehand. Either that or a ghost made them all happen! So I spent about 6 or 7 hours, panically fixing all the weird little cracks and things. Hopefully it's all nice and "working", now. The updated data includes things like a "Series Link" parameter so that (for example) all the JNKPlat games link to each other, and things like that. There's also a need to add a longer description to each game, add control descriptions, link the games to their soundtracks in my Music Archive, and then go through all my Art Asset stuff to add logos icons and other things for each and every game, going right back to the very beginning of the archive. (Which currently goes back as far as a couple of Amiga games!!!) That'll take me fucking AGES to do.. I've so far found that I can just about do rougly 4 games a day before my head wants to pop... ... And I'm currently only doing the topmost games, which already have Icons, Logos and things like that. Soon I'm going to have to start recreating those for all the old games. Erk!!
