Before I'd decided on the "Blockman Gets" mechanic, I tried many a different thing with him.
First, there was the Platform engine, where he had to run around and gather up the tiny blocklets. That worked nicely! After that I tried a "Pengo" approach, but he didn't seem happy pushing things around, so that never actually got uploaded anywhere. After that, I decided to go old-skool, and made a bog standard Pacman clone, but with a rule tweak. No lives!! No powerups, either!-=-=- Blockman ForeverSimple enough, and a nice big arena to play in, too. Of course, having a great big tile-based arena running on a PC has it's drawbacks. As I tried to play it, this morning, it was evident that extreme slowdown was taking center stage. A shame. It's not really noticable until you get to the edges where (for reasons I can't remember!) my quickly bodged together tilemap doesn't display the wraparound arena. um.. not sure on that one. If I bothered to remake this, today, that'd be fixed, along with the slowdown. But we've just done Blockman Gets Hungry, and I'm not really in the mood for a bog-standard pacman game, so I don't think we'll be revisiting this one, any time soon. It's a fun enough enough game, and it has (still working!?) online highscores, too, but it's not quite Blockman Gets! Views 56, Upvotes 16
