The new Tilemap Command set has now been uploaded to JSE.
-=-=-
It's a rather hefty amount of commands, so much so that I'm just going to direct you over to the SoCoder post, where there's more than enough of an explanation of everything.
Tilesets for drawing primitives of tiles onto the tilemap, as well as a maze generator, and a handy search function, should make for oodles more game possibilities.
The Seek methodology is pretty much a standard method that I've used in my games for doing AI and other stuff, but JSE's always been too slow to do it "In Basic", so it's nice that I now have a single command that can essentially do a whole host of handy things, based on what tiles are on the grid.
With everything working in up to 5 layers (0 to 4), you can even do things like keeping a specific tilemap with "solid or not" objects on it, which you never actually draw to the screen, but that you can use the Seek functionality with to check collisions and such.
Things like that really do make for a powerful tilemap setup.
It's a real shame that I can't figure out ways to actually give you a proper tilemap editor, but I think with this new command set, and the speed at which those work compared to how it'd be doing it all manually, inside JSE.... Tilemap Proc-Gen stuff really should be quite an improvement, I reckon.
...
And so ends about 4 days worth of fairly solid coding.. .. But with a break yesterday because Switch 2 happened.
That's been one heck of a week, I can tell you.
I still haven't added Dungeons to the new generator. But I'm having a rest before I tackle that.
And so another task is now complete.
But have I actually started a game for this week?
Oh no, I don't think that I have, and yet it's already the weekend.
I only have 'til Monday to finish off a game I haven't started.
So I guess that I must work out what the game should be. (work it out)
And then I reckon I should code it rather quickly. (quick a lee)
But whatever could the plan be for the game I haven't made?
And would it feature elements you'd find in the arcade? (arcade)
Code, Print, Logic, Goto,
For, Next, Data, Input,
More Code, Gamepad, tile map,
If and Else or End if
If and Else or End if
Come on, waken up, it's time to get yourself in gear.
It's time to write another game, like every other week this year.
And if you manage, make it good, then you can post it on the site,
So that the players will be quite happy, playing your new game, every night.

Int. Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes - Saturday Morning
[Green is at the counter with a customer while Dave plays on his phone]
Customer: But where can I find the nutritional information?
Green: Honestly, I'm not even sure they ARE nutritional.
Dave: [looking up] They're full of protein!
Green: They're full of a sausage.
Dave: Sshh, don't spoil the Scrunchy Surprise.
Olivia: I think we need proper labels, Dave.
Dave: Like programming - we need proper documentation!
Paul: Do we even know what's in them?
Green: Sausages.
Customer: But what KIND of sausages?
Dave: The scrunchy kind!
Green: That's not actually helpful.
Customer: What makes a sausage Scrunchy? That doesn't sound very healthy.
Dave: I could make a spreadsheet!
Paul: With actual information?
Dave: And graphs!
Green: [to customer] I'm so sorry about this.
Customer: So there's no nutritional information?
Dave: [already typing on his phone] I'll be done in about an hour, is that ok?
Olivia: Maybe just write down the ingredients first?
Dave: But the molecular structure...
Green: Why don't you go in the back and use the computer, Dave.
Dave: I've already registered a new domain name.
Paul: When did you...?
Green: [to customer] Maybe come in again on Monday?
Dave: There'll be a whole website!
Green: There probably won't.
[End credits roll as Dave sketches website designs while Paul tries to list actual ingredients]
