With the music engine at a workable stage, it's time to start adding some extra danger into the game.
Starting with Duck Turrets, and Jack's movements, I'm slowly starting to make the entire game a little harder.
I'll also be trying to come up with a bunch of map-based obstacles to get in the way of the player, too.
Basically, this is the bit that involves a lot of little tweaks, building up to a nice big fuller adventure, and sees me having to try to separate ...

The music engine is now in place, and I've converted a bunch of melodies from AL's recent "Liquid" AL Bum.
Thrown into the engine, they're sounding melodically "OK~ish", but those instruments aren't working out, at all.

Today I'll be experimenting with oodles of different instrument types to see what sort of...

I think we can now safely say that SpikeDislike3's been a bit of a wet duck. I expected more from it, and I really did enjoy making it, but .. Meh, whatever.. It's hard to get noticed in this great big crazy world of ours.
I'd expect myself to be a little more disappointed by this scenario, but oddly I instead find myself thinking "OK, Now What!?"
I guess that doing AGameAWeek for so long has taught me that, whenever something doesn't work, there's still something e...

As is the case throughout the majority of the past week, yesterday was spent mostly fiddling with my website. There are still a few minor errors cropping up on the error logs, but nothing worth hassling about. Little quirks like temporary variable usage, an old BASIC habit that refuses to go away..
If I want to disable a huge chunk of code, I tend to throw in something like "If (Aliens=Attack)" which does of course disable that section of code.. .. Yeah, I know, bad hab...

If there's one thing I hate, it's waiting for stuff!!
I'm a very impatient person, and have gotten used to things moving along at a fast AGameAWeek-like pace.
I now have TWO games, waiting for Apple Review, and quite frankly it's doing my head in!

Yesterday I found myself trying out a variety of themes, to figure out what does and doesn't work in the new engine.
Here's a brief selection of those tested.

This week, I started a game with ducks.
Having spent most of last week thinking about OUYACentral/Brew's "Lester and Ralph" game, I was looking forward to making some kind of game which made use of both thumbsticks to control two characters at once.
I'd already given up on Lester and Ralph, since there wasn't any realistic way I could fit it all into a single week, but I carried on with the twinstick control thing, and brought it down to a more manageable scale.
Ducks (and Swans) on a blue...

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013
No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention!
Sucks!!
So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list.

A somewhat simple remake, this week, as I couldn't even be bothered to add anything new into the mix.
To be honest, this is one of those "Desperately trying to keep up a rate of AGameAWeek" games!
It's fun, though, and now works lovely on an Android device (assuming your Android device of choice plays nicely with it!)

A Brief'ish History of Sheep Goes Left

After SpikeDislike was released, one of the AppStore reviewers complained that there's no way to save your progress, and that the infinitely continuing level was an issue because there are no checkpoints, and no ending.

True, I'd've much preferred to have done AGameAWeek for the entire year, but.. meh.. whatever!

A lot of elements are currently coming together, and things are getting a little more chaotic than I'd like them to be around Xmas time.
If the past 2 years of Xmas themed chaos (12 games of Xmas, Advent Collection) have taught me one thing, it's not to EVER plan anything around Xmas!
Presents, family visits and the general filling of my face with Xmas cake, will usually get in the way of the coding time, and as such I decided not to push myself into anything moronic this year.
I apologise...

3. Made Ducky-Turret's weapon a bit more visible.
4. I also took another 6 items off my todo list, but I can no longer remember what they were, since I've removed them from my list!

Alright, time to start on the next iOS project.
Over the past year I've started around about 500,000 iOS games, and released 6.
You're probably wondering WTF happened to the rest of 'em.

I woke up bright and early, planning to get a whole load done on my DaisyChains game, today.
I started the day by installing iOS5 v3. This was a bad idea.
It took me about 2 hours to get everything installed, reinstall XCode, get the new iOS5v3 iPod and Xcode working together, and then wait for all the apps to pop back onto the iPod.
*grr*

Lately I've done a half-a-dozen games where the main player must go left.
I've decided to take a break from that, and made a super-imaginative new plan.
In today's game, the player goes right!

Today I'm focussing my blog on iOS trials and tribulations. The basic steps of designing a game when working with iOS.
These are pretty simple things, and should be apparent, but .. having played a fair number of iOS games.. they're not always done!
Note, this isn't really about my actual development, as such, more the train of thought that generates the end result.
In a future bloggy thing, I might focus more on the what/where, than the how/why that this does. Let me know if ...

1. I'm waiting for Puzzobomb to pop up on the App Store, assuming they like it, and let it up there!
2. NinjaDuck is slowly plodding away, but I have no idea what type of game it'll end up being.
I mean, I have a vague idea! Obviously it'll be a platformer! But other than that.. *shrugs*
3. I thought about Y-Box, and how that'd be a nice game to have on my iPhing.. Then I started juggling some sprites, built a nice set of gfx, but then couldn't be bothered to code anything.
