25th April 2020
I've been asked how I achieve my scrolling backgrounds, especially since (as you can probably tell from my games) I'm not using "normal" techniques.
So, let's code a quick example, and you can hopefully follow along.
WARNING : This is far from being the ideal, or even the "normal" way of drawing backdrops.
I am NOT the best tutor for programming. I've been coding far too long without getting rid of my bad bad habits, and have been working towards "many games, quickly" tech...

A decade is over, and what have I done?
373 games, created a new blogging script for here, rewritten the Socoder forum, started a few new sites and more!
Oh, and a brain tumour!
It's been a wild and crazy decade, and over the next few days I'll be looking back at the best (and worst) games from the decade.

It's 7 years since I first posted the Jiggity post, waffling on about my health, and the tumour, and all of that gubbins.
As is tradition, here's my annual health update post!
Feel free to skip by this post, it's all about my crappy health issues, and since nothing's changed, you probably know it all anyway!

10:30, last night, a Wasp appeared in my bedroom.
We hunted the cupboards for Fly/Wasp spray, but none was to be found.
Instead, I spent the night on the couch, and it'll be battled at some point this morning.

With so many games to play, there's oodles of feedback for each.
Let's see what RSKGames thought of this week's game!

@RSKGames

Overview: A fast paced circular bullet hell game. I liked it better than the ''Orbital Projections'' and ''The Trouble with Vents'' which till day I can never play properly.

Always evolving, the Framework needs more Scoreboard tweaking.
I was hoping to get this done, over the past week, but the Radial Warning complications and lack of gameplay, ended up shifting my focus.

As I continue my trek through all the old blog posts, fixing up links and tracking down old images and things, I've noticed a rather worrying thing.
Any and all quotes, from old blog posts, seem to have completely vanished from the database.
I'm digging through old archived SQL backups, but I can't seem to find the quotes.

AHA!!!
.. Can't show you any of the results, yet, though, as the entire framework's graphical stuff is currently all commented out, until I convert everything from GLFW to GLES.
But that's a VERY important step in getting the thing up and running on iOS.
Previous attempts have spewed out thousands of Linker errors, but now I'm fairly confident that I vaguely might maybe know, roughly, what I might have been possibly doing wrong!!

You'd be amazed how many errors have cropped up in the AGameAWeek script!
The previous server was setup to display major errors onscreen, rather than logging them, but the new server logs EVERYTHING!!!

iOS and Android are both still missing from my compile-target list.
Yesterday's Mac attempt was (finally!) successful, but the iOS version requires a hefty rewrite of the graphic and input functions from GLFW3 to GLES, because iOS is awkward!!

So, after having read up on URL access for a couple of hours, I managed to get about 0% through it, yesterday.
I might actually end up trying to find a proper book on the subject, and having a good focused read-through. .. Although I imagine any book would probably focus on Win/Linux, and not the cross-platform usage I'm after.
I've really coded myself into a pickle, here!

Developments

I finally got around to shifting the framework over to the Mac, last night.
Hitting the compile button swiftly planted around about 1,000,000,000 red "WARNING:ERROR!" flags all over the code.

I really need to get back to working on Sheep Goes Right. It's really not a good idea to leave it half-finished like that, but I'm kinda enjoying working on the new Framework so much that I've not had much time to look back at older things.

Having finally decided that Emscripten is definitely broken, and/or just not doing what it's meant to be doing, I've hit a bit of a roadblock with the new Framework.
